Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Science Fiction/Fantasy Books

favorite sci-fi fantasy booksToday I am back with another post for Top 5 Wednesday (a weekly meme hosted by Samantha and Lainey), this week’s topic coincides with the BooktubeSFF Awards and asks us to share our favorite Fantasy and Science Fiction books! So, let’s hop right in!

A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas

cofBefore I read the A Court Of Thorns and Roses trilogy I had never read a book about Fae and I was a little unsure about that aspect of the story. But ACOTAR being a Sarah J. Maas’ book I was sure I would enjoy it none the less – and I did! [a door flies open, loud music starts playing and confetti falls down] Until A Court Of Mist And Fury entered the party and changed my opinion on the previous book and the ship I thought I was 100% set on. Rhysand and Feyre and the Inner Circle were such great characters to spend time with. The Night Court sounded like a dream – especially Velaris. If I can get a ticket there, I am leaving right this second! I can’t wait to be reunited with this world during my upcoming re-read! It has been too long!

A Darker Shade Of Magic by VE Schwab

cofThis is a very recent read for me and I am absolutely in love with this world and the possibilities it holds! A Darker Shade Of Magic introduces us to parallel universes where places are similar but also different, where a bit of your blood and the right words will whisk you away to a different parallel universe. A world that is home to a woman called Lila Bard who quickly stole my heart and has me ready to jump on a ship with her and see what the world has to offer beyond Arnes. Prince Rhy has me ready to stand at the front lines of his birthday parades and show my love and support for the young prince. I want to join Kell on his missions and explore the different universes by his side – he seems to know all the good places!

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

cofMarissa Meyer first introduced me to retellings (or at least her’s were the first books in which I was aware of the story being a retelling) and made me fall head over heels in love with one of the funniest crews I had come across to that point. Cinder laid the groundwork for what was yet to come in the remainder of The Lunar Chronicles and introduced us to one of the funniest androids that you couldn’t help but love almost as much as Cinder herself did.

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

IMG_20170307_133917.jpgIf you actually thought I would get through this list of books without mentioning Clockwork Princess you might be a new reader, so let me tell you a little something about myself: I will take every opportunity to talk about Clockwork Princess and The Infernal Devices. It’s a Thing. I adore the characters in this book with everything I have. Have you ever come across people who refer to characters or people as their sons and daughters? That kind of love is what I feel for these characters – especially the main trio of Will, Jem and Tessa. And yes, they are part of a love triangle but no, it’s not annoying. They are the only triangle I accept. We’ve come to know the Shadowhunters Universe in a modern day setting, but it was so much fun to dive into the 19th century and get to experience life that way!

Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

cofAnd lastly, to the surprise of probably no one: Six Of Crows! Of course a Leigh Bardugo book has to be on this list and if we’re talking favorites, it had to be either this or Crooked Kingdom. I just decided to go with the first book in the duology for this one! Six Of Crows introduces us to a rather dark world (set in the same universe as the Grisha Trilogy) inhabited by some interesting characters! Characters that are diverse in race, appearance, sexual orientation and physical abilities and I absolutely adored it! Most of these characters are also morally gray characters – not inherently good or bad. It makes for great conflicts and the potential for growth for every one of them!

There you have it, my Top 5 Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy books! Did any of these books make it onto your list too? What is the number one book on your list, let me know in the comments below! I’m still looking for more books to read!

    1. Aww, thank you so much! I’m so happy people seem to enjoy the pictures I take! 🙂

You should absolutely read Six Of Crows ASAP! I’m a big fan of the duology and it cemented Leigh’s place on my very short auto-buy authors list!

  4. Awesome list! I absolutely loved A Darker Shade of Magic and Six of Crows both did very well with their world building and they just pulled me in!
I wasn’t the biggest fan of Cinder but I have heard the series gets even better so I am willing to continue on with Scarlet! 🙂

    1. I loved that I didn’t have to get familiar with a new world in Six Of Crows as that tends to be my least favorite part of starting new series. So getting to just jump straight into the story was so much fun!

You should definitely give the other books a try and see if they appeal to you more! I really loved the introduction of Cress and Captain Thorne!

  5. ASDFGHJKL The Infernal Devices series is SO AMAZING. I am utterly in love with Will Herondale and he will forever be my favourite book boyfriend because he’s just SO incredible! I loved Cinder when I read it a few years back, too! I finally bought Winter so I’ll definitely be marathoning the series soon! 🙂

    1. My heart 100% belongs to Jem Carstairs, to be honest! I loved Will but like no one comes close to Jem for me!

Yay, I’m so excited to hear that! I hope you enjoy the rest of the series too!
