Top Ten Tuesday: Books (And TV Shows) You Won’t Be Able To Quit

books you won be able to quitTop Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely people over at The Broke And The Bookish! Check out all of their future topics by clicking here! This week’s topic was a Read In One Sitting theme, so everything from short books, to books that keep you engaged and reading all day/night or books to read when you’re short on time was allowed!

I decided to go for books that kept me engaged and reading the day away. I wasn’t able to list ten books, though, so I decided to include three TV shows that I watched in one sitting to make my list of ten complete – I hope you guys don’t mind!

Books

acomafA Court Of Mist And Fury

Oh, will A Court Of Mist And Fury keep you engaged and reading well into the night! I just read through my own reading updates in preparation for this blog post and I was so hooked on the story and it’s characters and the backstories, the revelations and the declarations this story had to offer! I am already so excited and ready for my re-read of this beauty of a book (probably towards the end of April)!

A List Of Cages25613472

With A List Of Cages, I literally read a book in one sitting. I picked it up sometime during the afternoon and just read and read and read until I finished the very last sentence. I didn’t do anything that entire day. I think I almost forgot to cook myself dinner because I was so wrapped up in the story and what was happening to the characters that I just couldn’t stop reading. I actually talked more about how I felt about this book in my review, if you want to check that out!

Caraval was such an intriguing story and I really found myself being wrapped up in the world and story and again, unable to stop turning page after page! I love whenever I stumble across a book like that! I will often find myself reading like that toward the end of a good book because I just need to know what happens next, but it doesn’t always happen for the entirety of a book. I also talked more about my feelings on Caraval in my review so you can check that out for more information too!

Clockwork Princeclockwork-prince

I am almost surprised that Clockwork Prince is the only Cassandra Clare book that made it onto my list (and that it wasn’t Clockwork Princess), but according to my reading updates I really, really enjoyed reading and re-reading this book a lot and so it had to be featured on this list! We have established my love of The Infernal Devices over many, many posts so I don’t think I have to say much more about it. Just know that it’s definitely worth your time!

crown of midnightCrown Of Midnight

I read Crown Of Midnight in about two days according to my reading updates and like with all the books on this list, I really loved reading it and my own updates were so much fun to read back over again! This book is also quite the step up from Throne Of Glass which I felt was too predictable and we didn’t get to see Celaena be the feared assassin she was supposed to be. All of that finally changed in Crown Of Midnight and it was such a welcome change too!

Heartless18584855

Oh, Marissa Meyer and her beautiful writing! Heartless was written so well and the story was so engaging that I just couldn’t stop reading and had to finish the book as quickly as possible! I had never read anything Wonderland related before, so I had a few trouble (as I mentioned in my review) at first but once I got used to the nature of the characters it was a really smooth ride to the finish! I can’t wait for Marissa Meyer to write more books because I am ready for the next story she has to offer me!

heir of fireHeir Of Fire

I picked up Heir Of Fire the day I finished reading Crown Of Midnight and read it in no time too. I remember telling myself I would start reading early that one particular day so I wouldn’t read into the early hours of the morning and annoy my parents by sleeping all day. But that didn’t quite work out as I had planned. I read the entire night and didn’t stop reading until I turned that final page at around 9AM. Needless to say, my parents weren’t too happy about it but what can you do? Luckily I live on my own now, so no one tells me off for reading through the nights.

Now let’s talk about the three TV-Shows I think you guys might really enjoy binge watching too! I sure did!

TV-Shows

One-Day-at-a-Time-netflix-serie-e1481276836642-224x300One Day At A Time

I keep talking about One Day At A Time and telling everyone to watch it because it’s soo good and I love all of the characters – especially grandma Lydia! She is a god damn gift! I don’t think I have watched many TV-shows focused on Cuban-American families before so having this be one of the first shows like that was great! The show deals with a lot of social issues and I think it’s done very well too! Elena Alvarez is such a great character and I think she might be important to a lot of girls too! I can’t wait for season 2!

Sense8senseeight

Me and Sense8 actually have a bit of a funny story. One night I decided I wanted to watch something new and I had heard so many people on my Twitter timeline back then talk about Sense8 and how great it is. So, at about 1:30AM I decided I would watch the first episode and see how I feel about it, right? I watched two episodes that night and then I really needed to sleep. But! As soon as I woke up the next morning, I turned on the next episode and watched the rest of the season in one sitting. I was hooked. My friend on Twitter actually made fun of me for being all ‘I don’t know if I’ll like this’ the night before to then watching an entire season in one sitting the next day. But she gets me! Sometimes that’s just how things go.

Stitchers is actually my most recent ‘I watched this in one sitting’ show! Just the other day I randomly decided I wanted to watch a new show. I hadn’t felt any interest in picking up a book in days but I wanted to do something fun so a new show it was. I watched all ten episodes of season 1 and the first episode of season 2 back to back before I finally went to bed. Then I continued and finished season 2 the very next day. And then I complained about having to wait until June 5th for new episodes. Because isn’t that the story of my life? Funny side note: the same friend I just mentioned also loves Stitchers and she was so excited when she saw my tweet about watching Stitchers!

Next time you find yourself with a lot of time on your hand and no idea what to do, pick up one of these books or watch one of the three TV-Shows! I can guarantee that you won’t regret picking either of them! They are all pretty awesome if I say so myself!

  1. I felt the opposite about the LIST OF CAGES. I couldn’t make myself read it…it took forever to finish. Ha! Goes to show that all people don’t have the same reading experience with books. Which should be obvious to me since I am a libraian and kids report back that they hate a book I love all the time. LOL.

  2. I love One Day at a Time! I stumbled across it on Netflix and binged the entire first season in a ridiculously short period of time. I just love how funny and dedicated their family is. And the show manages to tackle some pretty “heavy” topics with grace and humor. I can’t wait for Season 2 either! 🙂

  3. A Court of Mist and Fury was AH.MAY.ZING. I have Heir of Fire and Crown of Midnight but I still have to read them. I’ve been dying to read The Infernal Devices series ever since I finished The Mortal Instruments. And I still need to watch season 2 of Sense8

    1. You should absolutely get to The Infernal Devices as soon as possible! It is definitely my favorite out of all Cassandra Clare series out so far! The characters have such a special place in my heart!

The second season of sense8 hasn’t been released yet, so you’re all caught up – if you’ve seen the Christmas Special. I am desperately waiting for the series to continue already!
