Good afternoon you guys! How are you all doing today? How has your day been? Has anything really exciting happened? Did you see a cute child? Or a ridiculously beautiful book??? Tell me all about it!
Now, before I ramble on for too much longer – or I finally crash because I’ve been up for over 24 hours at this point (yes, I know I make horrible life decisions), let’s actually get to today’s post! I recently saw Mikaela from The Well Thumbed Reader share 43 2018 releases that she’s excited about which made me want to talk about some of mine too! I don’t have quite as many on my shelves yet so I figured a Top 10 would be best.
PS: The book covers will bring you right to Goodreads so it’s easier for you guys to add these books to your TBRs as well! 😉
Love, Hate & Other Filters
This book has been on my ‘Not Released Yet’ shelf for so many months now and I keep checking to make sure that the release date hasn’t been moved and we’re getting the book earlier – but no such luck. Love, Hate & Other Filters tells the story of a Muslim family who shares the same last name as a terrorist and how their lives are affected by the events. And honestly, I am so, so curious to see this story play out! I have a feeling I will really enjoy this book!
Batman: Nightwalker
Even though I haven’t even read Wonder Woman: Warbringer yet, I am still really excited about this because it’s Marie Lu writing a book (and no, I haven’t read Warcross yet either. But I have plans to read it with Jackie soon!!!) and I absolutely loved her Legend trilogy so I have rather high hopes that I will be enjoying this too! She might even get me to watch some Batman movies before or after reading her book. I mean, Leigh’s book made me watch the Wonder Woman movie (it’s been on my list for MONTHS and wanting to read the book was the perfect motivation).
Beneath The Sugar Sky
Since I finished the first two books in the Wayward Children series, I have been absolutely excited for more stories set in this world and apparently, there is really good fat representation in this book and as I discussed recently, I really want to read more books with fat characters in them! And also, the cover. It is so stunning. So, so stunning. But apparently, the story is much darker than the cover would make you believe.
The Hazel Woods
Here we have another book that originally caught my attention because of its absolutely beautiful cover. Can you tell I’m a sucker for those??? This book tells the story of 17-year-old Alice whose mother gets taken by someone who is a character in her deceased grandmother’s dark fairytale story. Alice joins up with a classmate who is a superfan of said dark fairytales to retrieve her mother. And honestly, this sounds so interesting and unique and I am so ready for this. Thank god there are only about 4 months left because I need this book already.
Children Of Blood And Bone
And would you look at this! Another book that caught my attention with its cover! I saw this on Twitter and then just had to know more! Luckily, there is a sampler on NetGalley that you’re able to read (which I did) and once I had finished the about 70-page sampler I knew I had to have this book even more. The sampler was so action packed and the story already so intriguing – I couldn’t believe I would have to wait MONTHS to find out what happens next! Samplers are the worst.
Tyler Johnson Was Here
Continuing with my trend of spotting great books on Twitter, this was another stunning cover that grabbed my attention when it was revealed. This book tells the story of twins Marvin and Tyler, who go to a party together but Tyler ends up disappearing and later he’s found dead. A video surfaces which shows Tyler being shot and killed by a police officer. We then follow Marvin as he deals with the after effects of this tragedy. I’m not going to lie, this book definitely gives me some The Hate U Give vibes and I’m even more excited for it because of that. I loved THUG and I want to read more books that deal with similar issues.
Reaper At The Gates
I can’t even believe it is almost time for the next book in this series to come out! I feel like I read A Torch Against The Night ages ago and I will definitely have to do a re-read before this release, but I am so ready. This series is so dark and different and awesome and I just can’t wait to be reunited with these characters – in whatever world, shape or form that might be. I am 100% ready. Can April please hurry up a bit?!
Ace Of Shades
Are you guys tired of me talking about this book yet? Because I keep mentioning this any chance I get and I keep talking about it on Twitter too. And I will let Amanda Foody know how excited I am because I feel like she needs to know how excited people are for her upcoming work! Especially considering that she’s already writing the sequel to this book??? And she just finished this one. This woman is busy at work at all times it seems! And no, let’s not talk about the fact that I haven’t even read her first book yet, okay? I feel guilty enough about it as it is. I don’t need you guys’ giving me a hard time too. But also. If you loved Legend (by Marie Lu) and the Six Of Crows duology – this is apparently just the book for you!!!
Leah On The Offbeat
To be honest with you guys, at the beginning of the year I wouldn’t have thought that I’d put a Becky Albertalli book on an ‘Anticipated Releases’ list because I didn’t enjoy The Upside as much as everyone else. But luckily for me, there was another book already released by Becky that completely pulled me over to Becky’s side and now I’m sitting here like ‘Give me her next release already!!! I need it. Now.’. And yes, I am aware of that other book (aka What If It’s Us co-written with Adam Silvera) she is releasing in 2018 – but it’s towards the end so it’s not counting for this list. But yes, I am so ready to learn more about Leah and to hopefully fall even more in love with Becky’s writing!
The Conqueror’s Saga #3 aka Bright We Burn
We don’t even have a title for this book yet or really much information other than it’s publication date. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you might remember that I really loved Now I Rise and I am just so god damn ready for more of Lada and Radu! I need to know how this story continues and how much darker it’s going to get – because the historical figure this book is based on went really dark. How do I know that? Well, Kiersten White got me so curious I actually watched a bunch of videos on Vlad The Impaler after finishing the second book. That’s how fascinating the story was. I needed to know what it was based on and just get more information in general. This rarely ever happens, okay? I don’t go out of my way to research historical figures (unless it’s the British Royal Family).
Phew, okay. Now that I’ve just written all of that out my fingers actually hurt? Seriously, I need to get back into proper writing shape. This is unacceptable. But then again, this post is rather long – 1.4k at this point. Yep. But there were so many great books I needed to talk about and hopefully convince you guys to add to your TBRs too.
Have you guys thought about which 2018 releases you really, really, really want to read? Are there any that you just simply can’t wait to get your hands on? Which ones are they?
Are any of the books I mentioned on your TBR too? Or are you going to add them after reading this post? Let me know in the comments below and help grow each other’s 2018 TBR by sharing some new releases!
honestly i haven’t thought about books from 2018 at all. i still have so many 2017 releases i want to get to haha! but there would definitly be “obisidio” by amie kaufman & jay kristoff and the third book in the nevernight chronicles by jay kristoff on that list. whooop whooop!

See, I still have a ton of 2017 releases too (September and October have SO many great books coming out!) but to distract myself from all of that, I figured I would look into the future! xD
I still haven’t read any of Jay’s books but I’m curious for the Nevernight series!
Urm, because I make bad life choices? I don’t even know. I had just gotten my sleep under control again when I decided it wasn’t important anymore…

I feel you as my 2018 Releases list is already too large 😅 I’m really looking forward to Love, Hate & Other Filters & Tyler Johnson was Here as well, they sounds like such interesting books! Apart from that I’m craving all the sequels. I’m also really excited for The Cruel Prince by Holly Black and The Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross among too many other releases. My wallet isn’t really happy about that 😆

I have The Cruel Prince on my general TBR for next year too since I haven’t really heard anything but praise for it so far! And I’ve never read a Holly Black book before, so this might as well be it!

2018 RELEASES THAT I REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT TO READ AND CAN’T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON?????????? UMMMM, RESTORE ME BY TAHEREH MAFI SAYS HELLO. I’m honestly DYING for the new book to come out, I get all up in my feelings whenever I think about it!!! It’s the one releases that is sososososoooo high on my list, no other book could ever compare omgfhdjbdgh *dies*
Some of the books you mentioned are on my TBR as well and I can’t wait for them to come out (especially Batman and Tyler Johnson) but one that you haven’t mentioned is Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston!!!!!! I’m SOOOOOO pumped for that one omg it’s an Anastasia retelling and I LOVE Anastasia??? So much?????? Omg I can’t wait for that one either.
Those two must be my MOST anticipated releases of next year (but obviously Restore Me is THE most important one!!!! <3333)

Hahahaha, yeah you definitely get all emotional about Restore Me! I see it on Twitter whenever Tahereh shares new info! It’s the best!
An Anastasia retelling you say??? I might just have to check that book out because I absolutely adore that movie! I’m still bitter that I can’t find it on Netflix or Sky to watch.

Hahahaha anyone who hasn’t read Shatter Me or doesn’t like it probably gets annoyed whenever I tweet (or rather lose my shit) about it but IDC I LOVE IT AND I’M EXCITED FOR IT AND I AIN’T APOLOGISING *flips hair*
Yessss!!! I think it takes place in space tho and I’m not usually into sci-fi but I love the author and concept of the book! I’m so bitter about that too omg I need to rewatch it 😭

Well, I just checked my notifications after seeing this post, and for some reason, WordPress hates me and it does not pingback to my post. WHAT IS THIS MADNESS??? Good thing I’m following you! 😄
But yes to so many of these! I wanted to include Ace of Shades, but I held back on including books with no covers yet to keep up the aesthetic of the post. 😂 But I loved Burning City, and Ace of Shades sounds amazing, so I’m ready for it! Also AHHHH to What If It’s Us! I literally cannot wait for that book OH MY GOD. 😍
And I still need to catch up on the Dark Artifices series and actually read Every Heart A Doorway. I AM SO BEHIND.

Hahaha, I 100% understand wanting to keep the aesthetic of a post and not including posts! But I just gave up after ACE and decided fangirling was more important than having a cover for a book. I’m hoping we’ll get one soon though – and according to Amanda, it’s gonna show up at some point in the near future.
Read Every Heart A Doorway! Or Among Sticks And Bones – whichever seems more appealing to you! They are fantastic reads, especially Among Sticks And Bones!

Great post! I’m really eager to read so many of these books here, especially Love, Hate & Other Filters, The Hazel Wood and Leah on the Offbeat. I’m also SO excited for The Belles being released in February 2018 🙂

Oh, I’ve definitely seen The Belles around quite a bit and just can’t seem to decide if I want to read it too or not. But hopefully when/if you read it, you can convince me to read it too! 😀

I hope it’ll be as good as I imagine it to be, so I can convince you to read it 😀

I’m so excited for so many of these!! I’m definitely anticipating Ace of Shades, but I hadn’t heard it was perfect for fans of Legend and SoC! Now I’m really excited about that one ahahah. 😂 I’m looking forward to Leah on the Offbeat as well, but Leah isn’t my favorite character, so I’ll have to see how I like it… Great post! 2018 has some great releases. 🙂

The mention of Legend And SOC is basically how Amanda first caught my attention on Twitter for this book and things just developed from there! This also gives me the perfect excuse to reread all five of those books to ‘prepare’ myself for Ace!
I feel like I’m nowhere near ready to hear about all the late 2018 releases that we’re going to get. If it’s anything like this year? I’m doomed.

Children Of Blood And Bone is probably my single most anticipated read.
I’ve already read Nightwalker and…. I wasn’t a fan. It was by no means terrible. I ended up giving it 3 stars, but it definitely fell short of what I was hoping for. If you like Marie Lu, then you’ll probably like it. I haven’t had great luck with her books.

Oh, no! That sucks to hear. I am staying optimistic though and see what more reviewers think because it would really suck if Nightwalker wasn’t as fun and awesome as Warbringer!
