TBR Spotlight: 2017 Releases I Want To Get To

My original plan for my TBR Spotlight posts was to do them at least bi-weekly, but then I realized that would be too much and instead I decided to post the monthly. Which hasn’t really happened either – my last one was in August! So, for today’s post I decided to I would take a look at some of the 2017 releases that I was really excited about but haven’t had a chance to read – yet! I want to get to at least half of them by the end of 2017!

strange the dreamerLet’s start this list with the 2017 release that I am currently reading (finally, I might add): Strange The Dreamer! I’ve had this one sitting on my shelves for a few months now but never really picked it up until the other day and I don’t even know what lead me to pick it up? I just did. So far, so good I would say but I’m also only a hundred pages into the book so we’ll see whether I’ll end up liking it as much as everyone else seems to do! What I can say though is that I really like Laini Taylor’s writing style in this one and it has me curious to see how it differs to her Daughter Of Smoke And Bone trilogy! And since we all know how bad I am at summarizing books, please click the cover image to be brought to the Goodreads page – and make sure to add it to your TBR once you are over there! 😉

30139283You may remember that I read They Both Die At The End by Adam earlier this year and while I liked it – I didn’t absolutely love it like so many other readers. But! I really enjoyed Adam’s writing style and TBDATE was such a quick read, that I definitely want to check out Adam’s other works too which is why I have History Is All You Left Me on my list once again – this time knowing that I like Adam’s writing.

I also barely read any books by male authors or featuring male protagonists so this is going to be a nice change of things for me too!

the library of fatesWith this book, I feel really horrible because I was accepted for a review copy of this back in August and then I never actually ended up reading it. Somehow, I had lost interest in The Library Of Fates and it keeps bugging me that I haven’t read and reviewed this yet – especially because I was really looking forward to receiving the copy in the mail and being able to read it so soon! But it’s crept back into my interests lately since I’ve been reading so many fantastic books and I’m on a reading high, so hopefully, I’ll finally get to it and can send the publisher my review – even though it’s months too late.

autoboyographyUp next on my list I have Autoboyography! I don’t even remember how this one caught my attention initially, but with that cover and a synopsis that sounded really intriguing – I had to add it to my TBR! And from what I have read or heard about this book the representation in it is fantastic and a lot of people were really able to relate to both, the Mormon life aspect as well as the LGBT+ representation! By including this on my list, I also want to make sure you guys hear about this book if you haven’t yet as it sounds amazing and don’t we all want to read awesome books?

all the crooked saintsThe next couple of books are all going to be quite popular releases that have either just come out or are about to come out so I don’t feel too bad about not having read them yet. But I am ridiculously excited and not ready for some of them. First, we have All The Crooked Saints! I am a really big fan of The Raven Cycle by Maggie so when I heard that she was releasing a new book I pretty much added it to my TBR without thinking too much about it. I mean, I had loved an entire series by her surely I’ll enjoy her new book too! We’ll see how things go with this one and if I end up enjoying it as much as TRC!

By the way, on a somewhat unrelated note: if you loved The Raven Cycle as much as me and on top of that are a huge fan of Stranger Things: there is a new book coming out in 2019 called The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman that is supposed to be perfect for those among us!

tower of dawnMy Chaol loving heart is so happy to be able to include this book on my list! You probably don’t know this unless you’ve been following me on Goodreads before you ever found my blog but: I am a Chaol fan. A big one. So you can probably imagine how disappointed I was to find out that he wasn’t in Empire Of Storms at all. Maybe a mention here and there but that was it. And then Sarah announced that she was writing a Chaol novella which turned into an entire novel in the form of Tower Of Dawn! And I still haven’t read it which just makes me mad at myself. What the hell, Swetlana?! Get on it already!

But yes, I am so freaking excited to be reunited with him an revisit some of the places from the novella bindup (if I remember correctly) and see some of those characters again too! And apparently, Sarah did a good job with the disability representation in this one too so that’s fantastic to hear!

renegades

Now let’s talk about the two upcoming releases that I can’t wait to get my hands on! First, Renegades by Marissa Meyer! I am honestly so excited to read something by her that isn’t a fairy tale retelling! I need to find out if I still enjoy her writing in that different of a setting! I also tried my best to get accepted for an ARC of this which unfortunately didn’t happen but since it’ll be out in the world tomorrow I’ll be able to read it soon anyway! I can’t wait! It’s also going to be my second Marissa Meyer book this year as I read Heartless in January! Have any of you guys been lucky enough to get ARCs and can tell me what you thought of this book?

whichwoodAnd now, the final book on my list that I just 100% know I will get to as soon as I can (probably in the form of an audiobook again) because I am just so excited to read this book! I absolutely fell in love with Tahereh’s writing in Furthermore and I can’t wait to experience it all over again in Whichwood! I never knew I would enjoy middle-grade novels as much as I did with Furthermore and I feel like I will love Whichwood just as much!

lets chat 1

How about you guys? Do you have any 2017 releases that you just absolutely have to get to by the end of the year? Or do you have too many of them?

Have you read any of the books I’ve mentioned above and can give me pointers as to where I should start with my list? I’m here for any and all kind of persuasion to read a book you guys really enjoyed!

  1. OKAY WELL.. I used to do TBR parts on my monthly recaps but guess what?? I DIDN’T READ THEM. Rip my brain.

I NEED TO READ RENEGADES OMG. I have borrowed WAY too many releases from 2017 to read all of them, and I HAVE SO MUCH MONEY DUE TO THE LIBRARY. I suck at library-ing in general omg

    1. I’ve never done ‘set in stone’ type of TBRs because whenever I would do those I would end up not reading any of the books either! But since these are all books I am 100% interested in and really excited for, I’m hoping this TBR isn’t going to turn me off of them!

DUDE. Get on your books. 😛

  2. YES YES YES To strange the dreamer!!! It took me a little bit of time to get into and become immersed in the world but I felt so many feelings reading this book and the ending was PHENOMENAL! like idk how Laini Taylor does it but reading this book was so different than other fantasy stories for me.. ITS CRAZY! I haven’t read the dosab series yet but I have the first and need to get to it SOON.

Also, you’re going to LOVE tower of dawn. I was lukewarm going into it and unsure how it was going to be given that it just kind of felt out of place but honestly it has become one of my favorite books in the series. I really think her writing has changed so much and I absolutely loved being in Chaol and Yrene and Nesryn’s head during this time. EVERYONE in this book was so amazing and I felt like I was taking this journey with them.. idk I felt so much more connected to the characters than ever before! I can’t wait for you to read it!!!

    1. From what I’ve read so far of Strange, I have to completely agree! It is definitely pretty different to usual fantasy stories and I am SO curious to see how things are going to progress now that Lazlo has pretty much made it to Weep! Also, these characters and what they can do seems so different to what I have read before and I am just amazed at what Laini can come up with!

Ah, I am so excited to read that Isabella! Now I wish I had gotten to the book already! Oh, also: do I have to have Yrene’s story fresh in my head to fully enjoy this book? Or is it okay if I don’t? I read The Assassin’s Blade so long ago I barely remember anything about the characters that were featured in it!

  3. I have been pretty good at reading my most anticipated 2017 releases, right now there is only one book left: It Only Happens in the Movies by Holly Bourne! I’m likely going to be getting to it this week and I’m really excited, since the author is one of my favorites 🙂

Ever since Autoboyography caught my eye I have been wanting to read it too! Same with Renegades. It sounds like much fun and I did read Cinder this year & loved it 🙂

    1. You’ve been doing much better than me then for sure! But I have to also say, I have been pretty good with this year’s fall releases as they’ve mostly really been books I have been DIEING to get to.

You 100% need to continue with the rest of the Lunar Chronicles books! I thought they got better with each book and the second book introduces Thorne who is hands down one of my favorite characters from that series! 😀

      1. This reminds me of how I still haven’t read one of my anticipated fall release from last year 😅To be fair, I don’t own the book and it’s constantly checked out of my library 😱

I know, I want to sooo badly but I have the feeling that it might take until January for me to start book 2 … maybe I can squeeze it into December anyways … who knows 😀 Now I’m really curious about Thorne 🙂

  4. I’m so happy to see that a book by Tahereh Mafi is on your list ❤️❤️❤️ I have yet to read Furthermore but I want to wait until I’ll be able to afford the hardcover! And then I’ll also need to buy Whichwood ASAP.

I can’t wait to read both Renegades and Autoboyography, and also Strange the Dreamer! It’s been sitting on my shelves for WAYYYY too long and I honestly don’t think I’ll get to it any time soon 😭
