I’m Back & February 2018 Wrap Up

Hey you guys

guess who is back again

That’s right, me! Did you guys miss me oh so much already? I’m sure you did! ๐Ÿ˜‰

But yes, I’m back again! And I hope it’s for good now too. I am definitely motivated and I have an entire month worth of posts planned out? Which is freaking awesome and I can’t wait to get to writing them all in the next couple of days!

blog plann

The same day that I announced my blogging hiatus I actually ended up having so much motivation that I ended up planning all of March in just a couple of hours? And the entire time I was doing it I kept asking myself where on earth that motivation had been before. I mean, wouldn’t it have been nice to be able to figure all of that out sooner? I wouldn’t have to have gone on this hiatus! But oh well!

As you might be able to tell, I am also going with a new schedule from now on! I’ll be posting reviews on Mondays, discussions on Wednesdays and another fun post on Saturday. Saturdays are going to be the day of the week where I’ll just post whatever is currently interesting me or fun lists, etc! I’ll also be continuing my Bullet Journaling 101 series on Saturdays, but don’t worry! It won’t all just be about Bullet Journaling, I plan on switching things up regularly so everyone can look forward to something – hopefully! ๐Ÿ™‚

Another thing that happened during this quick hiatus is that I actually finished reading some books? I mean, I finished two on the 27th, technically, but who is keeping track, right? February ended up being a really weird reading month compared to January but at least I finally finished some books again and I am hoping this is going to give me the push to read more again too!

What exactly did I read, you’re asking? I’m glad you’re curious!

AEITAThe first book I finished reading this month (and also the book I read the quickest this month) was Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember In The Ashes! And you guys!!! I can’t even tell you how excited I am that I’ve gone back to this world because I loved every second of reading this book!

An Ember In The Ashes features a really, really dark and brutal world with interesting characters which makes the reading experience so amazing! But I want to let you guys know that there is violence in this book and rape is mentioned more than once and attempted once. This is a dark and brutal world and some characters are so, so horrible. I don’t often get such a strong urge to punch a fictional character as I had with Marcus for the majority of this book. Honestly, the guy is a dick.

And while some characters are just downright nasty you also get to see how other characters deal with the brutality of their world in different ways and how their experiences shape the way they interact with the world around them.

When I first read this book, I seem to remember that I couldn’t stand Helene very much at all which I absolutely don’t understand now? Helene is freaking awesome. She is a badass, she is allowed to be one of the greatest Masks in their class but she also has feelings and is allowed to show them. She has her own agenda and does everything in her power to keep the people she loves save. Honestly, if this reread has made me realize how awesome Helene is, I am so glad I went back into this story!

Lia and I will be reading A Torch Against The Night soon and I can’t wait to dive back into that particular story!

extremely loudThe next book I finished (and the first one I finished on said February 27th) was Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close which I buddy read (or, was supposed to) with Lia!

Ever since I mentioned this book in a book haul months ago, Lia and I had agreed that we’d read it together as this is one of her favorite books and I figured that would give me the motivation to finally read it too.

As you can probably see, I didn’t give this book a rating in my little graphic up there and that’s because I have no idea how to rate this book. It took me much longer than usual to finish it and I ended up being confused for a good chunk of the book which is never good.

I couldn’t really connect with the characters and the writing wasn’t really my cup of tea. I often find myself enjoying books that are straightforward and don’t use metaphors and things like that. It always makes me feel like I’m back in school and reading a book for class. Which I’ve always hated. A lot. So that definitely influenced my enjoyment of this book quite a bit.

I’ll probably hold off on rating this book for a little while longer until I can really make up my mind – I don’t want to give it a gut-reaction rating.

to kill a kingdomAnd the last book I finished this month was To Kill A Kingdom which I had gotten an eARC for via NetGalley!

I feel like it’s no secret that I can read a book in a single sitting or maybe two days and this book took me forever to finish – or at least that’s what it felt like. I would have to actively make myself read this book and eliminate any sort of distraction because I would often find myself wandering off and doing something else whenever I was reading.

Don’t get me wrong, I did like the story and the characters but it just never really pulled me into it the way other books can where I just don’t want to stop reading until I turn that final page. But I don’t want to give too much of my thoughts away just yet as I will be posting a full review of this book on Monday! Guess you’ll have to stay tuned for more! ๐Ÿ˜‰

lets chat 1

I know I included fun infographics in last month’s wrap up but I honestly don’t feel like doing it at the moment, so we’ll have to postpone that until another day. Hopefully, I’ll feel more like it by the time I write my March wrap up – I’ll just include it in there then!

How did you guys do reading wise in February? What kind of books did you read and what did you think of them? Have you read any of the books I’ve mentioned today? If so, how did you feel about them? Let me know in the comments down below!

  1. Welcome baaaack!!! Itโ€˜s good to hear that you found your blogging mojo again and things have been going well in terms of planning and stuff! And congrats on finding a new schedule! ๐Ÿ™‚

And donโ€˜t beat yourself up over not reading too much/enough, we all have our good and bad reading days! I canโ€˜t wait to read your full review for To Kill a Kingdom! Iโ€˜ve had my ARC for a while but I havenโ€˜t really found the motivation to read it! I might pick it up during Zoeโ€˜s 24h readathon ๐Ÿค”

And I havenโ€˜t read the other two books but I own Ember!!! Iโ€˜ve had it for probably almost 2 years now and I just never got around to it which makes me so sad because it sounds awesome! Depending on when Reaper comes out, Iโ€˜ll probably read the first two books beforehand so Iโ€˜ll have them fresh in my mind for the new one!

I canโ€˜t wait to see what youโ€˜ve got in store for us this month and good luck with keeping up your blogging mojo! Youโ€˜ve definitely inspired others (me!) with your motivation ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Thank you, Jackie! I’m really quite happy to be back too! ๐Ÿ˜€

I have to say, I did expect more from To Kill A Kingdom so my review isn’t going to be as enthusiastic as it usually would be. And I feel like readathons are the PERFECT time to finally get to those reviews copies you’ve been meaning to read! I know that’s what I’ll be doing!

EXCUSE ME JACKIE. HOW HAVE YOU NOT READ EMBER YET??? IT’S SO GOOD! A Reaper At The Gates comes out on June 12th so you DO have some time to get caught up which you ABSOLUTELY should – just saying. Or like, SCREAMING.

I’m happy to hear that and it definitely gives me the motivation to work more and harder on the blog! ๐Ÿ™‚

How’s your study note taking going?

      1. Oh I actually ended up really enjoying To Kill A Kingdom! I’m still curious to hear your thoughts on it tho.

Ooooh June is still so far away so I’ll definitely try to read it by then! Feel free to remind me again in May in case I forget XD

it’s alriiiight, I finished one part of note taking but now I need to catch up on all the reading I missed during the semester and make notes on that so we’ll see if I make it before Restore Me :’)

  2. Welcome back!! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ’•
I think maybe announcing the hiatus and giving yourself time has started your motivation, because there was less pressure! I any case I love how you’ve planned for March, your new system looks really great ๐Ÿ™‚ I definitely look forward to more bullet-journal posts!
My reading month has been pretty good, it involved a lot of rereads and finally catching up to a Series that I started like 4 years ago ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. That might very well be the case! I often find that as soon as I go on hiatus I suddenly find myself with all that new found motivation! xD Thank you, I’m so happy to hear that! People seem to not have taken to the bullet journal posts as well as I had hoped (especially compared to other posts) but hearing that some people are truly excited definitely makes me want to continue on! โค

I saw how great your reading month was! I quickly flew over your monthly wrap up earlier and you did really good and that overall rating??? 4.75??? I wish I had such fantastic reading months!

  3. Yay for motivation!! I’m so glad you were able to get your motivation back – and it’s so good to see you back as well ๐Ÿ˜€ I remember reading An Ember in the Ashes back when it was released and like literally nobody talked about it – it’s been SO LONG! But I do remember how brutal the world was and how much I hated Marcus – but Helene I expected to not like but loved!

  4. I’m kind of the same about To Kill a Kingdom? It was ok, but it took forever to read and was just rather meh? I think if the writing style was kind of different it would have been a better read.

  5. Welcome back!!

Finally, someone who hasn’t enjoyed To Kill A Kingdom! Everyone seems to be loving it so far and I’ve yet to see a bad arc review so I was feeling pretty sceptical.

  6. Ah, Iโ€™m so glad you found the motivation you needed! ๐Ÿ˜„ I also took an unplanned break from this month, and it was nice to jut regroup. Iโ€™m very much ready for March and already planning for April, so itโ€™s nice to that sort of mojo back that I felt I was missing. โค๏ธ And I absolutely loved An Ember In The Ashes! IT HAS BEEN SO LONG SINCE I READ IT THOUGH. ๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. I need to really get back into my blogging mojo too but I definitely feel like that week away already helped quite a bit especially because I was able to plan posts again which I haven’t done in MONTHS. xD

Ember is SO good. I am already looking forward to to the second book and then I FINALLY get a new book!!!

I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us this and the upcoming month!

  7. Welcome back !!! It’s hard finding your blogging mojo any advice for this new blogger on the block?
I love hearing about your books and I must of read 10 or more books over my summer break here in Australia ๐Ÿ˜„
    Keep the posts coming xxx

    1. Honestly, the best advice I can give you is to try different things. Try different schedules for your posts (because posting consistently is quite important in my opinion) and if it doesn’t work – try something else! I’ve been through quite a few different schedules myself over the past year!

That’s fantastic that you were able to read so many books over your break! Which one was your favorite?
