Spring 2018 Releases

Hey you guys! I hope you’re having a fantastic Saturday. If everything goes to plan I will be in the middle of Zoe’s (aka readbyzoe on YouTube) 24-hour readathon and hopefully, I’ll have actually read/finished some books too – I have been in the weirdest reading slump lately!

As I mentioned on Thursday, I am officially back with an entire month worth of posts planned, including some (I think) great discussions that I can’t wait to share with you guys! But for today, I thought we’d start off slow by talking about some exciting Spring 2018 releases. And if you’re wondering why I’m talking about new releases again? Well, I just wanted to make sure that you guys have all these releases fresh on your minds in case you wanted to buy or pre-order them – I know I am ridiculously excited for so many of them!

to kill a kingdomI have to say, March starts off with some truly awesome books! I’ve already made my way through most of To Kill A Kingdom and it’s been quite good so far but you’ll get more of my thoughts on it in my review on Monday! 😉

In To Kill A Kingdom we follow Lira, siren royalty on a mission to collect her 18th heart for her 18th birthday and Elian a prince who feels more at home while out on the sea with his crew on the Saad. Their paths cross when Elian rescues Lira from drowning.

children of blood and bone

Children Of Blood And Bone is said to be great for fans of both Leigh Bardugo and Sabaa Tahir and if we know one thing, it’s how much I love Leigh’s work! And I recently started rereading Sabaa’s An Ember In The Ashes series and I am loving every second of it. So this does sound like it would be right up my alley as far as that goes and then we have a world where magic has disappeared, but our main protagonist Zélie has the chance to bring it back. Children Of Blood And Bone is a West-African inspired fantasy debut and I am 100% ready to dive into it.

the astonishing color of afterI’ve mentioned before how Jackie was the one to make me curious about The Astonishing Color Of After in the first place and now that I have an eARC of this I am both super excited but also super terrified to read it!

We follow Leigh, a half white half Asian teenager, who flies to Taiwan to meet her maternal grandparents after her mother commits suicide. Leigh believes her mother turned into a bird after her death and she’s on a mission to find said bird.

The Astonishing Color Of After is described as a novel about “finding oneself through family history, art, grief, and love.” (via Goodreads)

tyler johnson was hereLastly, for March releases we have Tyler Johnson Was Here! This book caught my attention the second the cover was released last year and I’ve been anticipating its release ever since!

We follow Marvin Johnson, whose twin Tyler ends up being found dead after he disappears from a party both boys attended. But not only is Tyler dead – he was shot by a police officer. “Terrified as his mother unravels and mourning a brother who is now a hashtag, Marvin must learn what justice and freedom really mean.” (via Goodreads)

ace of shadesYes, I am talking about Ace Of Shades again. No, I am not tired of talking about it yet. I hope you guys don’t mind! But as I’ve mentioned about a million times before I have been looking forward to this book since before Amanda’s debut novel was released back in July and it’s now so close to the release that I just can’t help myself! And I am still impatiently waiting for my ARC copy to show up in the mail so there’s that too!

We follow Enne Salta as she travels to the New Reyes – the so-called City Of Sins to follow a lead in her search for her mother who disappeared. There, she meets Levi who is close to paying off his debt and not really in the mood to help Enne in her quest – until she offers to pay him.

leah on the offbeatTo be completely honest with you guys I am kind of really nervous about this particular release because I as far as Becky Albertalli books go I’ve had two very different experiences: I didn’t like The Upside Of Unrequited as much as I hoped I would and I absolutely adored Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda.

And now I am a bit worried that this will be closer to The Upside rather than Simon VS and I would be so freaking sad if that were the case. I’ve been so excited and hyped for Leah On The Offbeat ever since Becky announced it!

What does give me hope though is the fact that this is set in the exact same universe as Simon VS and we actually follow the people we met in Simon VS during their senior year – including everything that comes with that. The only difference is that this time, Leah is taking center stage and I genuinely can’t wait to get to know her better and learn more about her and her story!

a court of frost and starlightI feel like I can’t really tell you much about A Court Of Frost And Starlight as it’s a novella that takes place three books into a series so it’s filled with spoilers and what not. So I’ll just say that I am super excited for this and I hope Sarah J. Maas actually delivers on that promise of two perspectives more than she did in A Court Of Wings And Ruin! Don’t tease me with two perspectives when you’re only going to give me a chapter or two in total. That’s not what you said we’d be getting. So yeah, please more than just two chapters of a second perspective. Thank you.

the surface breaks

Here we’ve got another book that first caught my attention with that absolutely stunning cover when it was first revealed on Twitter. I mean, how could you not be drown to The Surface Breaks after seeing that cover??? I know I had to check it out immediately and add it to my TBR shortly after!

The Surface Breaks is a Little Mermaid reimagination “through a searing feminist lens, with the stunning, scalpel-sharp writing and world-building that has won Louise her legions of devoted fans. A book with the darkest of undercurrents, full of rage and rallying cries: storytelling at its most spellbinding.” (via Goodreads)

from twinkle with loveGuys! We’re getting another Sandhya Menon book and I am 100% ready to dive back into her writing and spend a couple of hours one day doing nothing but reading this book! And it releases so close to the (hopefully) warmer summer months so this seems absolutely perfect!

We follow Twinkle as she works on a movie for the Summer Festival with fellow movie lover Sahil, starts writing emails with someone named ‘N.’ who she believes to be Sahil’s twin brother Neil who she has a crush on and writes letters to her favorite female movie makers.

From Twinkle, with Love navigates big truths about friendship, family, and the unexpected places love can find you.” (via Goodreads)

furybornFuryborn is a book that has been getting so much buzz recently? I remember seeing an ARC for it pop up in some bookish boxes towards the very end of 2017 and the ARC cover never quite got me interested enough to investigate further but then once the actual cover was revealed I just had to know what the book was all about and here we are now!

In Furyborn we follow the story of two different women, living in two different millennia and yet their stories are connected to each other.

Rielle exposes her talent for elemental magic by trying to protect her best friend – a talent that only two people should have: a queen of light and salvation and a queen of blood and destruction. To proof she is the former, Rielle has to participate in a trial to test her magic and fight for her life.

A millennia later, Eliana only knows of Rielle and her life as a fairy tale. When her mother and other women go missing, she joins a rebel captain to find her mother and in her quest to do so discovers just how horrible things in the empire actually are.

legendary

The last book I want to talk about in today’s post is the sequel to Stephanie Garber’s Caraval: Legendary! And while my opinion of how much I loved the first book changed by the end of 2017 I am still really curious to see where the story is going to go in this one!

But I obviously can’t really tell you much about the plot of this book as it would spoil the previous one which is the last thing I would want to do.

In Caraval we follow sisters Tella and Scarlet as they escape their father and finally make it to Caraval – an interactive game that Scarlet has wanted to participate in for years. This year, the stakes are even higher as Tella ends up being kidnapped and it’s Scarlet’s mission to find and save her sister before anyone else does.

lets chat 1

Phew, okay! This post actually turned out to be much longer than I anticipated when I first set out to write it. I really hope you guys stuck with me through it all!

Anyways, I’m sure most of you guys had at least a few of these books on your lists too, as they are quite popular around the book community but tell me, which one are you most excited to get your hands on? Is there a book that I haven’t included here that you just simply can’t wait for? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂

  1. March 6th book releases alone are going to kill me, haha. So many fantastic books coming out that day – and all spring, really! I can’t wait for Leah! I even have it pre-ordered 🙂

      1. Sounds like a good plan to me! I’ve done similar things before, just not with audiobooks since I can’t get myself to listen to a whole audiobook haha. But I’ve taken a book out from the library when I wasn’t sure if I’d like it and then bought it later on.

I’m only a little sad that Jackie made you excited about Astonishing Colour BECAUSE of ME AND MAY HAVE BEEN SCREAMING ABOUT THIS BOOK TOO!! OMIGOD I need FuryBorn!! I already pre-ordered and EEK THE COVER IS SO PRETTY! obviously Ace Of Shades!

    1. I must have not paid proper attention to you and May because I had no idea you guys were excited about them too! Hopefully, we’ll be able to read them soon (because when do we ever read our ARCs on time, right???) and fangirl (or rant) together after! I know I can’t wait for both those books!

I CAN’T QUITE MAKE UP MY MIND ABOUT LEGENDARY. LIKE, I LOVED CARAVAL WHEN I FIRST READ IT BUT THEN IT KIND OF FADED BY COMPARISON WITH THE OTHER CIRCUS THEMED BOOKS I READ. BUT I’LL PROBABLY STILL READ IT.

  3. Upcoming discussion posts? I’m 100% here for that! 😀
CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE!!! I’m so excited for this book and I cannot wait to get it for my birthday, which sadly is in the middle of April, but at least I know I’ll get it as a gift then 😍
However, I’m struggling because I cannot get to all the other releases right now even though I want to! 😮 I need Tyler Johnson Was Here, Ace of Shades and ACOFAS like righ now – oh and Restore Me since Jackie keeps talking about 🙂 Basically I have too many books I want and not enogh money as usual 😅

    1. Hahaha, YAY! I am so happy to read that, Caro! 😀

AH! Why can’t time move a bit quicker so you can get your hands on this book already?!?! I’ll be reading it this week because I have my review planned for Monday and I cannot wait to experience this story in its entirety! When exactly is your birthday?

Hahaha, STORY OF MY LIFE. Story of my life! I am still SO far behind on those fall 2017 releases so yeah. xD Have you read the other Shatter Me books before? I don’t think I remember you talking about them. Whenever I see Jackie get so excited about this series I reconsider my stance on not giving it another chance – I read the first book and the novella a couple of years ago but apparently didn’t feel like i NEEDED to continue on.

      SAME. Oh my god, same!

      1. Time is really mean sometimes 😱 Oh that’s cool, I’ll definitely look out for your Review then! 😍 My birthday is April 16th so not soon, but also not too far away 😀

I feel you, I’m still behind on reading 2016 releases – like Scythe xD – so that’s bad 😂 I did Shatter Me in 2016 and the other two books in 2017, which is a long time ago when I think about it now 😮 Jackie definitely is good at making me want to reread the books xD I was a bit disappointed with the first book after all the hype, but I did like book 2 and 3! 😀
