Good morning (I hope I’ll get this post done in time for it to still go up in the morning – I guess we’ll see!) you guys and happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a nice day whatever you’re doing today and for all of my A Court Of Thorns And Roses lovers, I hope you survived A Court Of Frost And Starlight!
Me, I’m currently about 45% through the ebook so I don’t know exactly what the rest of the book has in store for me but I think I spoiled myself for what the spinoff trilogy might be about and I am freaking excited. I need the next book right now.
And allow me another quick tangent because I need a second to fangirl about a particular cover reveal we got just a few days ago before I actually jump into today’s post.
I think it’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Leigh Bardugo’s Six Of Crows duology and the world she created within her Grishaverse. Well, said world is going to get further explored in Leigh’s next book King Of Scars which is all about our young Mister Nikolai Lantsov.
And oh my god, I don’t think I am ready for this book??? I adore Nikolai. So much. BUT! We’re apparently also getting a second POV in King Of Scars that is one of the characters from Six Of Crows and I have a feeling that it’s gonna be NINA and if that is the case, I need the book right now. Someone, please invent time travel so I can jump ahead to the end of January 2019 and read this book, please and thank you.
170 words of rambling and I haven’t even shown you guys the cover yet. WOW. Okay, here it is:
Isn’t it just oh so beautiful? I can’t wait to have it next to my collection of Leigh Bardugo books to stare at lovingly but also to reread a million times! What do you guys think about the cover and are you as excited about this book as I am? Let me know! 😉
And now, let’s return to what this post was actually supposed to be about, shall we?
I figured it would be a good idea to do multiple check-ins throughout 2018 to see how I was doing with my reading goals because this way I can step up my game if I need to (which, spoiler: I do) and hopefully accomplished the goals I set for myself.
Goal #1: Read 50 Books
I feel like this is a goal I will be able to complete early in the year, especially since I’m already more than halfway there and according to Goodreads, I’m 11 books ahead of schedule! But not only that, I’m also currently reading three books that I’m at least a third of the way through – plus, with ACOFAS I will be finishing it either tonight or tomorrow.
But yeah, this is 100% something I will be able to accomplish and hopefully read a lot more than 50 books this year. I might even be a bit competitive with my 2017 result of reading 63 books and aim for at least 65 if not more books. And don’t get me wrong, please. I am not forcing myself to read a lot or to read quickly. Not at all! I’ve just been picking up really good books and flying through them (just take a look at my April reading month) which is why I’m so far ahead in my reading challenge.
Goal #2: Read 15 Contemporaries
As of writing this post, I have read a total of 10 contemporary novels and if anyone would have told me I would be a third of the way through my goal by April, I don’t know if I would’ve believed them. But, I keep picking up so many good contemporaries that I’m even actively requesting contemporary ARCs. I know. Who have I even become? And just in case you need some suggestions on what to read, any of the six pictured above are all fantastic and books I would highly recommend!
Goal #3: Read 10 Sci-Fi Novels
I’m currently exactly halfway through my goal, so that’s good seeing how we’re not even halfway through 2018 but I’m also kind of struggling to pick up sci-fi novels because they aren’t what I usually gravitate towards. I’m much more likely to pick up a fantasy or contemporary novel before I even reach for sci-fi. Guess I’ll have to make sure that I continue to pick up this genre more often so I don’t fall behind on this goal.
Goal #4: 25 Unread Books Off My Shelves
This is a goal that I changed when I set up my tracker for it in my bullet journal. Originally, I wanted to get down to 10 unread books on my shelves but then I realized that I get books quite often and it would be difficult to track this goal as the year went on, so I set a number of books I want to read off my shelves. And, I haven’t been doing very well on this goal, not going to lie. I’ve only read 4 books off my shelves so far so this is a major fail so far. I’ve just been reading so many eARCs or listen to a ton of audiobooks that I don’t feel the need to reach for physical unread books.
Goal #5: Read 15 2018 Releases
Another goal that didn’t exist like this originally and I don’t even know I set this as a goal for myself when I know that I tend to read a ton of new releases anyway, but yeah. I want to read at least 15 2018 releases this year and I’m currently at 8/15 so that’s pretty good! I also decided to count the Shadowhunter Chronicles novellas as one 2018 release rather than each one individually. I mean, I do want this goal to last me a bit longer. xD
Goal #6: Read 7 Debut Novels
I’m currently at 4 out of 7 even though I’m having some trouble remembering what the fourth book is right now. *facepalms self* But since I’m already more than halfway through this goal I would say I’m doing a good job and should have no trouble whatsoever to finish it by the end of 2018! YAY!
Goal #7: Throne Of Glass Reread & Catch Up
Oh, I am miserably failing this goal so far, but Sandra and I just made plans the other day to reread the series together in time for Kingdom Of Ash so I should be able to complete this goal by the end of the year which is awesome! We also just made some reading plans in general which I’m super excited about because I’ve really enjoyed reading books together – either as a buddy read or like we did with Ace Of Shades as a traveling book!
Goal #8: 2018 Series TBR
Look, a goal I am doing okay on again! As I talked about in this post, I currently have five series on my TBR that I would like to get to in 2018 and I’ve made some progress on it and read at least the first book in 3 of the five series I talked about, so go me:
Ace Of Shades
- Nevernight Book 1 / 2 (currently about 40% through book 1!)
Wayfarers Book 1/ 2
- Red Rising Book 1 / 2 / 3 / 4
Monsters Of Verity Book 1/ 2
I obviously still want to get to the rest of the books and as I mention in my little list, I’m already reading Nevernight and as I announced in this post, I’ll be reading the first thirty-ish pages of Red Rising as part of a little challenge – probably for the month of May!
Goal #9: Read ARCs A Month In Advance
Um… Yeah, that is not happening whatsoever and I should really work on that because it stresses me out when I know I should have read and reviewed a book because the release is coming up but I haven’t started reading it yet. In fact, that’s what’s happening right now with The Smoke Thieves… I just need someone to kick me in the butt and give me that last bit of motivation that I need. So, I should probably make this more of a priority for the rest of 2018, right? Wish me luck, please!
Okay, phew! That was a much longer post than I anticipated it being and I think my fingers are about to fall off, so let’s wrap this up, shall we?
What I want to know is how are you guys doing with your reading goals for 2018? Are you happy with where you’re at or do you need to check back and see how you’re doing? Let me know because I’m super curious and please tell me at least some of you guys need to step up their game with some of your goals? I can’t be the only one who is failing at some of them, right?
