20 Questions Book Tag

Good morning you guys! I hope you’ve had a good start to your day or a good day in general so far! We’re supposed to be getting rain today so hopefully, I’ll be all cuddled up in bed and reading the day away – especially after yesterday’s reading outside resulted in a bit of a sunburn on my shoulders.

For today’s post, I figured it would be super fun to share a tag I was recently tagged in where I get to talk about all things bookish and who doesn’t enjoy that, right? So, thank you to Grey for tagging me in this! ❤

And now, let’s just jump right into this!

1. How many books are too many books in a book series?

Hmmm, I feel like four books might be a pretty good number of books for a series for me! I was going to answer this differently at first because I thought my answer might vary depending on if it’s a series that is already released or if it’s an ongoing series but after giving it a bit more thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that four is perfect.

It’s a number that wouldn’t turn me away from an already released series (because series are a commitment) and I feel like being along for the ride of a quartet is a time period that isn’t too long.

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

This one 100% depends on if it’s an ongoing or completed series and whether or not I have the next book on my shelves already. Because if it’s an ongoing series and I have to wait at least a year for the next book? Then cliffhangers are the absolute worst (*sends evil eyes at Lord Of Shadows*). But if it’s a series that I already own and can continue right on, then I don’t mind!

3. Hardback or paperback?

Paperback! I love, love, love paperbacks and my shelves are probably 85% made up of paperbacks! They are usually much cheaper than hardbacks and much, much easier to read and take around with you too!

The only time I will ever reach for a hardback over a paperback is if it’s a brand new series that I just cannot wait until it’s released in paperback the next year! And I’ll probably regret that decision when the new book comes out because I’ll want it to match which would mean I need to get another hardcover at a more expensive price.

But then again, it’s not unlike me to buy the paperback copy a year later so I can continue the rest of the series in paperback too (though we shall not speak of my current struggle to decide which edition of Queen Of Air And Darkness I should get because I’m worried it won’t match my Lord Of Shadows copy…).

simon vs the homo sapiens agenda4. Favorite book?

Oh, easy! Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda – if we’re talking just one single book. Then yes, hands down! I don’t think there is a single book that I own that I have read as many times as Simon VS and especially in the short amount of time that has passed since I first read it!

And if we’re talking series, then it’s The Infernal Devices! I’ll forever hold this trilogy in a very special place! And if we’re talking about one book from a series/trilogy then that’s probably A Court Of Mist And Fury! I love, love, love that book with all my heart and am constantly looking forward to my next reread – whenever that might be!

5. Least favorite book?

I have no idea! I don’t really think about books I didn’t enjoy once I’m done with them. I try to banish them from my memory!

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

Yes, if they are done right. And so far the only series that has accomplished this (in my opinion) is The Infernal Devices! Throughout the entire trilogy, I would find myself rooting for either couple and I genuinely loved all the characters involved in the trilogy (even though I might love one particular character more now, after the fact) but that hasn’t really happened since TID and usually, I’m just really annoyed by love triangles!

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

No idea! I don’t mark books I DNFed on Goodreads and I don’t remember the last book I did that with, unfortunately!

the smoke thieves.jpg8. A book you’re currently reading?

I’m actually in the middle of two books right now: The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green (which I’m enjoying quite a bit and am about a fourth of the way through) and The Iron Trials by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black which I picked up from my local library a few weeks ago and need to finish soon!

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

Em, probably Leah On The Offbeat since it’s the one I keep talking about recently! I don’t remember who I last recommended a book to (I’m getting old, okay?) so we’ll just go with Leah!

10. Oldest book you’ve read? (Publication date)

Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone which was released in 1997.

11. Newest book you’ve read? (Publication date)

The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo which released yesterday and I read early as part of the blog tour!

divider

12. Favorite author?

Hands down, Leigh Bardugo! I’ve read and loved pretty much all of her books (though my opinion might change on the Grisha trilogy once I reread it, but when I first read it I loved it) and I am constantly looking forward to what she’ll be releasing next!

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

I wish I could say borrowing, but my library selection just isn’t that great – especially since I live in a rather small town in the countryside. I’ll usually opt to buy books if I can afford them!

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

The only book that comes to mind for this would be Harry Potter? I read the first one and really didn’t enjoy it and I don’t see myself carrying on with the series because it’s quite long and I don’t think I want to make that commitment right now. Maybe down the line when I have kids myself – who knows.

divider

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Usually, bookmarks! Though I am not above dog-earing my books!

16. A book you can always reread?

Again, Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda! It’s usually my go-to whenever I am doing something and want entertainment that isn’t music!

17. Can you read while hearing music?

Yes! I actually need to listen to something while reading a book because I’ll get distracted by the quiet otherwise!

divider

18. One POV or multiple POV’s? (POV’s = Point of views)

Multiple POVs all day! I just really enjoy experiencing a story through the eyes of multiple characters and getting to know characters from multiple perspectives – it’s always so much fun!

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

It honestly depends on the book and my own mood! I’ve read books in literally one sitting where I didn’t do anything but reading and only get out of bed when I needed to eat or use the bathroom. But sometimes a book just takes me multiple days to actually finish it (most recently with Nevernight) and that’s okay too.

20. Who do you tag?

lets chat 1

And now it’s you guys’ turn! I want to know

  • dog-ears or bookmarks?
  • favorite books?
  • most recent book you absolutely loved?
  • paperback or hardback?
  • one sitting or multiple days?

I’d love to hear your answers down in the comments below or in a post of your own – just make sure to tag me so I can read your answers! 😀

  1. What a fun post!! I must say you’re only the second or third person I know who doesn’t like Harry Potter, and it’s always such a surprise for me. I also love ACOMAF!!!! What a wonderful book!! I still got to read Infernal Devices, but I’ve heard amazing things about it!

    1. Yeah, it’s like you’ll usually meet someone and they ADORE Harry Potter and I wouldn’t rule out ever loving the series, but right now it’s definitely not for me. ACOMAF is so far the highlight of that series – I really hope Sarah will be able to deliver something as awesome with the spinoff trilogy because otherwise I might just lose interest and that would be so sad!

NATY. You absolutely need to read The Infernal Devices! I’m once again in this headspace where I just NEED to reread the trilogy – right this second. xD I’ve been watching too many book talks today.

And thank you, I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it! ❤

  2. It’s so strange that you get distracted by silence, I’m the complete opposite. I can read on trains and in public spaces too, in waiting rooms etc, but I tend to get distracted by conversations around me sometimes. The worst is when there is music or tv on the background, there I really can’t focus, haha.
I’m also a paperback kind of person, they’re cheaper and more practical for sure – but like you, I will get the hardback when I just can’t wait for the book, that recently happened with Emergency Contact 😛
Lovely answers! Thank you so much for the tag! ❤ ❤

    1. I find that since I usually read in English, the conversations around me don’t really get my attention but it’s different when I’m reading a book in German because suddenly everything becomes a distraction. xD

I bet Emergency Contact looks SO good in hardback! And I can’t wait to read your answers whenever you get around to answering them! ❤

  3. Great answers for this tag Swetlana. I’m not a fan of the love triangle trope but if it’s done well I suppose it would be a deal breaker (unfortunately the only book I’ve read that does it right is The Infernal Devices!)
I really hope you continue to enjoy The Smoke Thieves, I read it earlier this year and thought it was a good start to a new series, and oh I love Simon Vs and Leigh Bardugo as well. That’s a book and an author I’ll never get tired of re-reading.
Great post, and again great answers for this tag! 🙂 ❤️

    1. I have to say, I love how most of us who mention a triangle well done all speak about The Infernal Devices! xD And I did actually end up really enjoying The Smoke Thieves – there was a bit of a lack of actual smoke thieving going on for my taste, but I figure with where the story ended, there might be a lot more in the next book! 🙂

      Thank you, Beth! ❤

  4. Aahh this tag looks so fun, Swetlana! Thank you so much for tagging me, I definitely will be doing it. 💕 (For some reason I didn’t get a pingback notification? Probably yet another WordPress glitch lmao.)

ALSO YES. It feels so weird to say that I get distracted by the quiet, but… that’s literally me?? Like right now as I’m typing this, I have music faintly playing in another room and it’s still too quiet. (Sometimes I jam too much to my songs though and get no reading done. 😂) AND HELL YEAH so many reader friends of mine prefer one POV over multiple but I LOVE multiple POVs?? I think it’s because I’m just obsessed with book characters and I want to get the most of them. 😅

    Great post, Swetlana!!! 💞

    1. Hmmm, that’s so weird that you didn’t get a pingback for the post – but I’m glad you saw it either way. I can’t wait to read your answers for the questions, May! ❤

Hahahaha, I can't live without music. I turn it on the second I wake up in the morning and only shut it off when I'm watching something or listening to an audiobook! Multiple POV are SO awesome though! Why would people prefer just one??? Don't you want to get to know each character through their own eyes rather than through whatever the single person POV thinks??? People these days… xD

Thank you, May! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! ❤

  5. Ooh, thanks for tagging me! Looks like a lot of fun!

Also I was just absolutely dying at “(*sends evil eyes at Lord Of Shadows*)” 😂😂😂 Seriously though, that ending was NOT COOL!!! 😭😭

  6. Thank you so much for tagging me, I shall share my answers with you soon 💗 I’m 100% with you on paperbacks: I would love to get hardcovers, but paperbacks are so much more cheaper! I often wait the year until they come out and only buy hardcovers of books that have no paperback release yet. And I make one exception for one of my fave Series that’s ending now, but that’s like 1 new hardcover release this year 😀
(and yes to all the Simon vs. Love in this post!! 💗)

    1. YES, I can’t wait to read all about them! And you’re very welcome Caro! ❤

I've now taken to checking UK release dates for books because they'll often publish both the hardback AND paperback for books or just paperbacks of books that are only available in hardback in the US! NO BUT THE RED QUEEN COVERS ARE RIDICULOUSLY BEAUTIFUL AND I BET IT COMES ACROSS A LOT MORE IN THE HARDBACK EDITIONS. My paperback of Red Queen isn't really that pretty? But the hardbacks look like they've got some shine to them which is always a BIG plus!

      Liked by 1 person

        1. I read both Red Queen & Glass Sword back when they first released! And even had King’s Cage on my anticipated list last year but somehow never got around to it. xD And now I don’t remember ANYTHING about the series to continue reading it.

THAT’S MY PROBLEM WITH MY THE DARK ARTIFICES PAPERBACKS. I have a TINY Lady Midnight one with sprayed edges (which is beautiful, if the gold of the title wouldn’t rub off so easily) and then a HUGE Lord Of Shadows one (that I LOVE. Those big paperbacks are much easier to read and give me more space for my millions of notes). But now I don’t know which one to get for the last book because I don’t want another edition that isn’t going to match. xD

          1. Oh that’s so cool!! 😍 Please feel free to tell me about how you liked the books, what characters you liked best etc 😍 I feel you though, if you wait too long you kind of forget what the books were all about, so you’d have to reread them 😄

Oh no that’s horrible!! I hate when they have different heights, it has happened to me too often (I’m still crying because my Crooked Kingdom paperback is somehow smaller than Six of Crows by a lot … how dare they??) and it’s really difficult when another book is yet to come out 😮

            Liked by 2 people

          2. I honestly don’t remember about how I used to feel about either of the books because it’s been so long since I read them! However, if I remember correctly I gave Red Queen like 4 stars? So I definitely enjoyed it when I first read it. 🙂

Oh yeah. My copy of A Reaper At The Gates is a TINY bit smaller than the rest of the books too and I’d think people would at least make HARDCOVERS the same size but NOOOO. xD
