Why YOU Should Watch ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’

I know, you probably thought I’ll finally shut up about this movie (or maybe not, if you don’t follow me on Twitter because I didn’t actually talk that much about it on here) now that it’s released and I’ve seen it (twice, because I wanted my watch to count towards the numbers so I watched it again later on Friday) but actually that just made me want to talk about the movie more?

We had a little online watching party with a couple of bloggers including Lia, Caro and Ilsa and it was so nice to see people’s reactions to the movie! And Twitter has been filled with all the love for the movie too which is awesome to see. Instagram just made me angry with myself for not having my own physical copies yet – but I’ll get there eventually.

But now, just in case you are unsure whether or not you should watch this movie – will you listen to some of the reasons why you should? I even shared tips on how to have a great movie night earlier this week, so you’re all set! πŸ˜‰

Oh, before we even get into me trying to convince you to watch the movie, have a look at the official trailer – that might actually be enough to convince you. πŸ˜‰

Lana Condor & Noah Centineo KILL IT

Let’s start this list off with one of the most important aspects (at least to me): Lana and Noah playing Lara Jean and Peter convincingly. And my god. They honestly did such a fantastic job and they had the best kind of chemistry between them. I was sold on these two from the second I saw the very first bits of footage from the movie. They are cute, precious and just really deliver their performances, in my opinion!

The Soundtrack

I don’t often pay much attention to movie soundtracks but this one actually stuck out to me quite a bit and I enjoyed it so much, that I’m now looking up all the songs on Spotify! The song chosen for the trailer was awesome already and the rest is just as amazing, let me tell you. I can totally see myself listening to that one in particular on repeat for days.

Fake Dating Trope

There are tropes in fiction that I will read a million times over and I will not get tired of them (I read a million and one fanfics of a variety of ships fake dating) and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before has one of my absolute favorites: fake dating! We all know exactly where this story is going to go and the complications we’re going to see but it’s just so much fun. And who doesn’t like a fun, feel-good movie?

Kitty Is A Gift

I did quite enjoy the youngest sister Kitty in the books but I have to say, movie!Kitty might be even better! She’s a bit different in the movie than she was in the books (especially were here loyalties are considering Josh and Peter) but it does all work quite well!

Kickass Friendships

We’re introduced to the friendship between Lara Jean and her BFF Chris quite early in the movie and these two were pretty freaking awesome. I loved how encouraging Chris was and how much in Lara Jean’s corner she was throughout and how she pushed Lara Jean out of her comfort zone a little bit. Lara Jean and Lucas staying in while they are on a ski trip to read and do face masks was 100% relatable.

But probably one of my favorite friendships was the one building between Lara Jean and Peter! These two had so many fantastic, open and honest conversations and I loved it. They were so much more than just two people fake dating. They actually got to know each other better and build a strong foundation of friendship.

Peter And Lara Jean Are Everything

Ever since I read the Lara Jean trilogy I’ve pretty much been set on loving these two – it took me a bit the first time around but my reread solidified my love for them. And to see them on screen was everything I could’ve asked for. Plus, they have so, so many swoon-worthy scenes? From running into each other at the Corner Cafe to contract negotiations to everything else (I’m doing my best not to spoil things).

You’ll Sit There With The Biggest Smile All Movie

This feeling basically started from the first teaser material and returned every time we got more footage of the movie and it was certainly there for 90% of the movie too.

I’ve always loved me a good rom-com or teen movies. Always. I would spend hours on end watching and rewatching my favorites whenever they were on TV (some Saturdays were spend exclusively in front of the TV as a teen) and to get that feeling and experience again as an adult – it’s awesome! I don’t think you have to be a certain age to enjoy this movie – there’s something there for everyone.

The Rewatch Factor

As I just said, I love to rewatch movies I really enjoyed and let me tell you, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is 100% going on that list too. And as I said at the beginning, I first watched the movie with a few fellow bloggers in the afternoon and then went BACK in the evening to watch it again. Gotta make my watch count, right? Let Netflix know that I loved the movie and want the rest of the trilogy adapted too!

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned how I love to rewatch One Day At A Time (which you should be watching too, by the way) whenever I want a pick me up or just something fun and easy to watch, right? This is now joining ODAAT – you know, to give me a bit of a change up from time to time. xD

Awesome Father/Daughter Relationship

I often see people ask where the parents are in most Young Adult stories or why the parents are just not good parents, but in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before we have a really, really lovely father/daughter relationship and I especially love the way it came across in the movie! I’m still laughing about the entire scene in the car before the ski trip. Because there’s more than what is shown in the trailer. One line, in particular, had me laughing out loud.

Grab Your Coffee And Let's Talk!

Okay, show of hands! How many of you guys have seen this movie already? And how many of you guys are planning on watching it this weekend? For those of you guys who haven’t seen the movie yet or hadn’t heard much about it – are you going to watch it? Let me know in the comments down below!

Also, can everyone who has seen the movie share their favorite scene? In a non-spoilery way, please. I know the trailer gives away quite a bit but we wouldn’t want to ruin it for everyone who hasn’t seen the movie yet!

  1. oh my god, I literally CANNOT wait to watch this and I’ve been eagerly anticipating it ever since I watched the trailer!! Netflix is seriously stepping up their game with all these quality movies they’re releasing lately ❀ and I totally get what you're saying about the soundtrack, all of the beats in the remixes were SO COOL, esp in the original trailer. (also hopefully after this movie's success, movie studios decide to branch out into more genres of YA instead of sticking with dystopia!)

      1. HAHA the whole Hunger Games craze really set the dystopia genre on fire! And yes, I would definitely looove more contemporary YA books being adapted into movies. Or maybe even YA fantasy, although I feel like that would be quite difficult to execute well!

And unfortunately not yet ): but I’m planning to at the soonest possible opportunity! ❀

  2. This post is AMAZING, it perfectly captures what I thought about the movie as well 😍 It was such a good pick me up movie and I loved watching it with you and the other bloggers together, it just made for a really good experience ❀ Overall the movie impressed me a lot! The casting was on point and I totally agree that Lana and Noah killed it onscreen! They worked so well together and you could really feel the chemistry they both had, I couldn’t have asked for a better Lara Jean and Peter! Generally, there were so many elements to the movie, like the friendships and the family relationships, it was overall really great 😍 I think the only thing I wanted a bit more of is Lara Jean baking, we only see it two times and I wanted a bit more of the amazing foods she makes 🀀 But apart from that I was super happy with the movie & I hope it gets a lot of views!!

    1. Thank you for your super sweet comment! ❀

If this isn't going to be one of my most watched things on Netflix, I don't know what's happened to me. I think I'm already up to a total of 4 watches? And it's not even been a week yet. xD

I'm glad there wasn't more baking, tbh! I would've felt like I NEED to bake ASAP and I've 100% been doing too much baking as is. xD

  3. I JUST watched the movie this afternoon and this post summed everything up perfectly! I really loved this adaptation – I can’t really talk about the differences between the book and the adaptation, since I read the book years ago, but I really loved what they did. I LOVED the main characters and I think that Lana and Noah did such a great job with them and Lara Jean really came alive on the screen, Lana was such a great choice for her! They really were great together and I loved seeing their interactions. And yes, I had the biggest smile on my face while I watched it haha πŸ˜€
    Great post! ❀

    1. YESSSS, I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed this movie so much! I’m still on a little high so I keep watching it over and over – I think I’m at a total of 4 now. xD

In a not so surprising turn of events I don’t remember too many differences either BUT I reread the book shortly before watching the movie. xD One of the major changes Lana and Noah talked about fighting against was their first kiss on the track field as in the books, Lara Jeans jumps into Peter’s arms and kisses him in the hallway by the lockers but apparently that wasn’t as easy to film and make look good, so they changed it to what we got in the movie – which is still great, not gonna lie!

      1. 4??? Wow, you’re…. dedicated haha, that’s so great. I have been able to watch it only once, but I know it’s a movie I’ll re-watch for sure many, many times. ❀

Oh okay – well I think they managed to make a GREAT job with that adaptation, I'm so happy!! Always so nervous about adaptations haha. I hope for once that they make a sequel πŸ˜€ I NEED MORE

  4. I haven’t watched this yet (and won’t be able to for a couple of weeks), but I’m SO HYPED TO! I love this book, and honestly, it’s way more the type of movie I would gravitate to than the book is! I usually don’t go for this much light fluff in books, but I’m a sucker for a good rom-com when it comes to movies!
PLUS, I already know I love the characters! So yeah. I’m excited! And I’m so glad everyone seems to be loving it!

  5. THIS WHOLE POST πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

I loved the movie and it’s what convinced me to finally pick up the book! I loved the film and I’m pretty sure it’s what solidified my love for the fake dating trope!

  6. I 10000000000% agree with everything you just said. I had never heard of Lana Condor or Noah Centineo before this movie, but now I’m big fans. I CANNOT WAIT for Sierra Burgess is a Loser. Not only is there DEB from Stranger Things, but MORE NOAH CENTINEO. Also, YOUR BLOG IS SOOOOO CUTE!!!!! I love the graphics πŸ™‚

    1. Same here! I hadn’t even really looked further into anything movie related because I didn’t love the book as much the first time around but then I saw the trailer and I was SOLD. Just four more days until Sierra Burgess!!! And also, I’ve since been convinced to watch The Fosters – Noah stars on there either starting with season 2 or after season 2 and apparently it’s a really good show overall so that’s another way to get more of Noah! πŸ˜€

Thank you so much, that means a lot to hear! ❀
