Do you guys find yourself looking forward to getting to check in with your reading goals throughout the year? Because when I was trying to come up with posts for August I realized that it had been four months since my last check-in which meant it was about time I had a look at my reading goals again to see how I was doing.
I mean, I do update the spread in my bullet journal regularly but I don’t talk about it much on here but I think it’s fun to check in and see how everyone else is doing too. Maybe you guys need a bit of extra motivation to get back to your reading goals – I certainly got that when I realized how close the release of Kingdom Of Ash was and that I hadn’t started my reread yet. xD
2018 has already been such a great reading year for me that I’ve actually updated some of my reading goals to keep me motivated for the rest of the year. But now, let’s jump into this update! 😀
Goal #1: Read 50 75 Books
When I last updated you guys on my 2018 Reading Goals I was at 27 books read and already 11 books ahead of schedule. If you take a look at the graphic, you’ll see that I’ve completed my reading challenge since then and I’ve actually read the same amount of books between May-August as I did during the first four months of the year!
Seeing how well things are going, I’ve kind of updated my reading goal in my head to 75 books – but I’ll leave my Goodreads goal at 50. I love seeing that little ‘Completed’ banner on my sidebar! 🙂
Goal #2: Read 15 25 Contemporaries
Ah, my love of contemporaries continues and I’ve since completed my original challenge of reading 15 contemporary novels by reading 18, so I’ve decided to up my goal and see if I can reach 25 too. As always, I don’t make myself reach for a particular genre – I read whatever I’m in the mood for at any given point in time. But I do have a few more on my list that I want to read so hopefully this will get ticked off by the end of 2018!
Goal #3: Read 10 Sci-Fi Novels
Now, this is still a goal I need to work on as I’m currently on 6/10 books. If I remember correctly, I have two sci-fi novels I need to read (review copies) so that’ll bring my number up to 8. But I won’t mind if I don’t get to ten novels as I’m not as familiar with the sci-fi genre and don’t really reach for books within there.
Goal #4: 25 15 Unread Books Off My Shelves
HA. Yeah, this kind of wasn’t really happening as I kept rereading books or listening to new books on audible rather than reading those unread books on my shelves so I’ve decided to lower this goal to 15 and I’m at 7 books right now. We’ll see if I’ll be able to complete this challenge.
Goal #5: Read 15 25 2018 Releases
But now, let’s talk about another challenge I’ve actually completed because those are so much more fun to talk about! Thanks to audiobooks and eARCs I’ve been able to read quite a few 2018 releases this year and I’m super excited about it. I’ve also decided to up this challenge to 25 and I’m already at 20/25 so I’m sure I’ll be able to complete the new goal too. 🙂
Goal #6: Read 7 Debut Novels
I’m about to complete this challenge! I’m currently at 6 of 7 novels and while I could probably also up this challenge, I’ve decided to stick with 7 and just see where I end up at the end of the year – it’s not like I can’t read more than 7 debut novels! 🙂
Goal #7: Throne Of Glass Reread & Catch Up
Last time I checked my reading goals I was doing pretty miserably with this particular goal but I am happy to report that I’ve since made progress! I’m reading Crown Of Midnight at the moment and I’m pretty sure I’m actually ahead of my little goals at the moment (I had 70 days for 7 books and I’m maybe 14 days in?) so that’s fantastic. And now that we’ve gotten some glimpses at Kingdom Of Ash I’m actually even more motivated to get these books read. Plus, another huge motivation is the anticipation of meeting certain characters soon – Heir Of Fire is where it’s at!
Goal #8: 2018 Series TBR
This particular goal isn’t really about finishing all the books in the mentioned series but rather reading the first book in each of them and I’m almost done with that! I finally finished Nevernight (that book took me AGES to finish) and read the second book in the Wayfarer’s series (which I had a review copy of) so the only book I really have left is Red Rising. I swear, it feels like this book is going to follow me around for months to come. xD It’s been on my TBR for over a YEAR now.
Ace Of Shades- Nevernight Book 1 / 2
Wayfarers Book 1/ 2- Red Rising Book 1 / 2 / 3 / 4
Monsters Of Verity Book 1/ 2
Goal #9: Read ARCs A Month In Advance
LMAO. Yeah, I was failing miserably at this goal for the first four months of the year and nothing has changed there so I’ve decided to just drop this goal. Apparently, I’m just not organized enough to stay on top of my review copies. I mean, I’m still going to read them and everything, just not until panic mode sets in because the release date is approaching and I haven’t read & reviewed the book yet. xD
Now that we’ve taken a look at my updated reading goals, I want to know how all of you guys are doing! Are you on track for your reading goals or have you abandoned some of them because you just weren’t working towards it? Also, question: when do you guys work best towards a goal? With a deadline attached to it or without one? I for sure work better with deadlines. xD *has flashbacks to all those sleepless nights when I finished assignments the night before*
If any of you guys do updates on your reading goals, I’d love it if you linked back to me so I can check them out too! 😀 And now, let’s get chatting in the comments! ❤
Congrats on increasing all your goals! I love Sci-Fi and Fantasy so if you want any recommendations to help hit your 10 then let me know! I have so many great ones I could recommend.

You seem like you’re on track on most of your goals, great job! Managing ARCs and timing is always hard. And congrats as well for completing your Goodreads reading challenge, that is probably my main goal for the reading year as well, and luckily I’m already ahead several books at this moment.

Thank you, Ayunda! I’m just to unorganized 95% of the time and don’t get much done until that deadline is staring right at me. xD I hope you’ll be able to complete your goal and it seems like you’re well on your way to it!

Oh you’re doing so great with all of your goals, that’s amazing! You know me, I’m a contemporary fan so I’m especially proud to see how much of these you’ve been reading, yay! 😀

My reading goals for this year pretty much flew out of the window xD This always happens somehow. I’m super excited for my goals, but then midway through the year I don’t like them as much anymore and wish I had chosen ‘cooler’ more exciting goals, oh well 😅
I’m glad to see that you’re doing well with your goals! 💕 I should really read more sci-fi books too, as I actually find space to be pretty exciting 😀 I’m also not doing great when it comes to reading Arc’s ahead of time and tackling the physical TBR as well 😅

See, apparently I only work on READING related goals because anything else I don’t really stick to either. xD

I’m almost done with my reading goal! I’ve read 29/30 so I’m sure I can do it. I’ve read a lot more fantasy this year and I gave up on catching up on series because I keep starting new ones 🙃. But I think I’m doing better at managing my reading but I still don’t read everyday which is sad.

Oh, I know that feeling! I’m currently in the middle/beginning of quite a few series that I hope to finish soon but there are others I want to finish out first so I can shift my attention elsewhere. 😀

Yes exactly! There are so many series to start and catch up on! I did finish my reading goal but wow I am so behind on reading. I need to have some time for myself.
