3 TV Shows For A Rainy Day

Today is such a yucky kind of day. The sky is gray, it’s windy and it keeps raining and apparently, the next couple of days are supposed to be more of the same. And while I could complain about it, I figured I’d much rather take full advantage of the fact that it’s the weekend and I can hide inside and be all nice and cozy doing things I love.

And one of the best things to do is to binge watch something. Get under those blankets with a hot tea/coffee and just dive into a new story for the weekend – or for the next couple of weekends.

But if you’re sitting here, reading this post drawing a blank as to what to watch, don’t worry! I’ve got a couple of suggestions for you! Plus, I made sure to include two shows that you could (theoretically) watch in their entirety this weekend! πŸ˜‰

One Day At A Time

Those of you guys who have been following my blog for a while probably know all about my love for this particular show, but since there are a bunch of new people reading this blog nowadays, I figured I’d still include it. Especially since I want everyone to watch this.

One Day At A Time follows a Cuban-American family’s everyday life with all of its ups and downs. Penelope is a veteran, raises her two children with the help of her (fabulous AF) mother, deals with PTSD is allowed to show weakness but also be a badass. Penelope has had me in tears and crying so many times over the course of two seasons, I adore her.

Another favorite of mine is without a doubt Penelope’s teenage daughter Elena. She is everything one can hope to be. She cares about social issues. She fights for what’s right. She is a gay teenager growing up in a Latin family with an ex-military dad and she makes me all emotional more often than not. I would do anything for Elena, not gonna lie.

While the Alvarez family unit is amazing to watch, I also really enjoy getting to know the side characters more – especially Schneider. Though I’m not sure you would exactly call him a side character – he does play a pretty big role in the Alvarez’ lives and is a fantastic friend to Penelope!

If you haven’t seen this show yet, please, do yourself the favor and give it a watch. But also, have tissues nearby! And maybe a stuffed animal to cuddle with.

Queer Eye

This list would be so incomplete if I didn’t mention Queer Eye! I discovered this show a couple of months ago and I am telling you guys, I’ve never fallen in love with a cast as quickly as I did with the five men of Queer Eye, Antoni being my favorite, but no one is surprised by that.

You can watch this show in as random of an order as you want. You can check the episode description and watch whatever speaks to you most. Or you can watch them in order – both works.

I really love that we actually get to know Karamo, Bobby, Jonathon, Tan and Antoni over the course of the two seasons and not just the people (or Heroes, as they call them) they make over. There’s something unique about each one of them and you won’t be able to help yourself but to cry alongside them or get really, really stressed when a cop car suddenly pulls up and pulls them over. As a tip for anyone who falls in love with Antoni the way I did: make sure you have extra tissues ready for the season two opening episode. Waterfalls, people. Waterfalls.

Gilmore Girls

This, to me, feels like the quintessential autumn and/or rainy day show. Maybe that’s because we would always get new seasons during the fall or maybe it’s just the vibe the show gives off, but yeah. If you’re looking for something to keep you company for the upcoming weeks and months, make sure you keep Gilmore Girls in mind!

We follow the story of single mother Lorelai as she raises her teenage daughter Rory in the small town of Stars Hollow with the help of her friends Luke and Sookie. Stars Hollow is filled with some of the most interesting characters out there and throws so many different parties for each season – it makes me wonder how hectic life there must be. Plus, Lorelai and Rory are big coffee fans and Rory is also a fellow bookworm!

I just recently rewatched the entire show myself so I don’t know if I’ll dive back into this so soon, but then the thought of Milo Ventimiglia lures me in (I know I could watch This Is Us but that show makes me cry like no one’s business and sometimes I just want something fun to watch) because his character is still the one for me.

Grab Your Coffee And Let's Talk!

Are you guys fans of this more gray and rainy weather? Or do you prefer your autumn to be full of sunshine? I know I prefer the sunny days, they’re just better for my overall mood. But that’s also where our favorite things come into play, right? A hot coffee, a good book and snuggled in bed – not even rain and grayness mess with that!

What are some shows you guys gravitate towards once autumn comes around? Let me know in the comments down below – I need some new ones to watch! πŸ˜€

Also, kind of related to this: how many of you guys are excited about the new Sabrina show (aka Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) that Netflix is doing next month? I remember watching the original when it first aired here in Germany but I don’t remember it being quite as dark as what the Netflix trailer showed? Nonetheless, I’m curious!

  1. I love rainy days in general, but I love it more when I don’t have anything to do and could just staying in! Waking up to the sound of rain and realizing you don’t have anything that day so you can just stay on your bed is the best feeling! I really want to watch Queer Eye and One Day at a Time, they just sound amazing πŸ™‚

  2. Omg. Your thoughts about Queer Eye speak to my SOUL. I have watched it all the way through more than I can count, and my favorite episodes even more. Antoni is my fave too, although Bobby is a close second πŸ™‚

  3. I love rain when it doesn’t sound or look gloomy! I do not like gloomy rainy days :/ I haven’t watched any of the shows before but I have heard a lot about Gilmore Girls. Currently, I am binge-watching Friends πŸ™ƒ It gets better each time, doesn’t it? A few months ago I also started watching Downton Abbey, I think I will get back to watching that too! Hope you have a good week πŸ™‚

    1. For some reason, I just cannot get into Friends. I’ve tried so many times but apparently it’s not for me. xD

Oh, I remember that show! My English teacher used to really loved it and I think we watched an episode or two towards the end of the school year once but I haven’t looked into it since. That might be something I have to check out!

      1. Oh πŸ€” I have never come across a person who doesn’t like FRIENDS πŸ˜‚ It might not be your taste then! Do try Downton Abbey, I started watching it to improve the ‘britishness’ in my accent πŸ˜‚

  4. I really need to watch Queer Eye! A good blogging friend tagged me to do the Queer Eye book tag, and I’ve been curious about it ever since. I don’t watch a lot of series, actually, but I prefer romantic sitcoms–they seem to be the perfect things to watch given any weather at all!

  5. I’m not a rainy day an autumn or winter kind of person at all, to be honest, but I’d take any excuse to watch Gilmore Girls haha. I love this show so, so, soooooooooooooooo very much, I am currently watching everything and I can’t get enough of it, I wish I could not work and just watch that all day long haha πŸ™‚

  6. Ahhhh, I just started One Day At A Time (after seeing your recommendation a while back), and I’ve only watched like two episodes, but I already LOVE it! And Elena is simply the best. THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!

  7. It’s like you exactly knew what I needed to read about πŸ˜€ I love rainy days and watching a show while cozying up with a blanket and hot drink is literally everything I could want πŸ’•

OH YES to One Day at a Time & Queer Eye, both are so heartwarming and perfect to make you feel good πŸ˜πŸ’— I have to admit that I never watched Gilmore Girls, only a few episodes here and there when my mom would watch it on TV 😱
A show I think is also great for a rainy day is Nailed It! all about beginner bakers trying to recreate amazing masterpieces, it’s so much fun, but warning: it can make you very hungry πŸ˜‚
