Introducing: Brand New Theme AND Taking A Look Back At Previous Ones!

Hello and happy Friday, you guys! But also, HELLO MARCH. Can you guys believe we’re already in the third month of 2019? I swear we just celebrated NYE. πŸ˜‚

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve secretly been working on different images for the blog as I was already growing tired of my current one. Who do some of you guys stick to the same one for years? Tell me your secrets! Anyways, I’ve been trying to figure out when the best time would be to upload them and I figured a new month is a good start, right?

So, if you’re reading this post in your readers, please head on over to the blog to see the new look! I’ve put quite a bit of work into it and I’d love any and all feedback. πŸ˜€

I continue to try and come up with a more cohesive layout for the blog in connection with the URL but somehow it never quite sticks, so I’ve decided to just move away from it for now… and include flowers instead! I mean, Spring is right around the corner, right? So it seemed fitting. Plus, I’ve been loving pink and gray together. That was the major reason why I wanted to change things up: that color combination. πŸ˜‚

Here’s a look at the new header image that’s much less busy, I think, and I just adore the color combination! You’ll see the exact same flower illustration pop up over and over again in various different elements (sidebar, dividers and probably more – I still need to update some images) too, so I hope you like it. πŸ˜‚

I’ve also decided to use an actual background image for the first time ever to give the blog a bit more of a makeover. Plus, it allowed me to add a few more colors to my overall color scheme which worked out perfectly for my little social media icons on the sidebar.

And honestly, one of the more difficult parts is always creating a new icon for some reason. This time, I just basically took the header image and moved all the elements closer to each other and called it a day. Don’t get me wrong – I adore the icon, I just wanted to make it as easy as possible on myself. Take a look:

Okay, wow. I’m super glad I decided to add the icon in here because I’d have missed how washed out the text looked otherwise. You could barely even read the pink part. That’s fixed now!

If you’re familiar with my previous icon you probably caught that it’s not that much different overall and that’s because I did really love the graphics I made last time around and I didn’t want to overhaul them – I just wanted an update.

Reading Through The Nights

And now, let’s take a look back at some of my previous themes – starting with the oldest one:

I don’t even remember when exactly this layout was up on the blog or how long it stayed on the blog for. It was one of my earliest tries at including images and just personalizing the blog more. As you might be able to tell, this layout is from back when this blog was still called Reading Through The Nights.

This particular design didn’t have many extra images – I hadn’t gotten to that point in my journey yet. I just used lines and headers to separate texts a bit and that’s it.

The Caffeinated Bookworm Life

Towards the end of 2017, I kept wanting to change the name for the blog as I didn’t enjoy the previous one anymore (we did come up with it pretty quickly as this blog was a spur of the moment decision originally) and in September, I introduced everyone to The Caffeinated Bookworm Life with a brand new look and tons more graphics:

Man, did I love this design and color scheme. Plus, it was quite easy to edit for Blogmas that year which I loved too (I’m all about easy updates!). My only problem was that I couldn’t use the same fonts with Canva (I had created the title using a different website) which sucked. I did still keep this one for a good 8 months before it was time for a change again.

I’m starting to sense a theme here for how long these designs last on my blog, this next one stayed up for 10 months:

This is probably the one most of you guys know as the face of the blog – I feel like a lot of people have started following since around when I uploaded this particular theme. And since it was summer when I uploaded it, the colors were just perfect. Plus, I was doing more than just talking about books (anyone else missing the bullet journal content?) so I loved having that represented on the header image too.

I’m genuinely quite proud of most of the themes I’ve had on the blog in the past 25 months of blogging (oh yeah, I’m about to upload my FIFTH theme in 25 months… I don’t know why I can’t stick to one for good either) and can’t wait to see how my style changes/evolves in the months to come.

But now I’m kind of curious, when did you guys start following me? Which layout did I have up on the blog? Also, do you guys prefer it when blog keeps the same look for years or do you like them to switch things up? Let me know in the comments down below – I can’t wait to hear from you guys!

  1. Ahh your new design looks SO great, I’m loving this color palette so much, it looks so peaceful somehow, I love it! ❀ ❀
I haven't changed my entire design a whole lot in the past 4 years of blogging, I'm not sure why ahah these kind of things always make me nervous for some reason? haha. πŸ™‚

  4. You know that I love your new design so much!! The pastel colors are really great and so very relaxing πŸ˜πŸ’•πŸ’– I actually didn’t know the first design, but I have been around for the second design πŸ˜„ I know that I lurked around your blog a little while before I joined WordPress, so it was the first one I followed ❀️

  5. First of all, I love the new design and it seems like you’re happy with it too!

Secondly, I love posts like this. It’s nice to see that more established bloggers also struggle with figuring out the exact design they like and wanting to switch things up. I feel like I shift some small aspect of my (very minimal) blog design at least once a week.

Thirdly, I would love to see more bullet journaling posts! I’m just getting into it, so I’m always looking for inspiration and tips. A lot of people blog about bullet journaling, but it’s neat to see different people’s takes on it. We all mix and match, which is what makes it so fun!

    1. Thank you, Christine! πŸ™‚

Oh, I’ve always been someone who doesn’t stick with a theme for too long! Even way back when I first started creating websites (that had nothing to do with reading or blogging) I always had to switch things up. xD

I have quite a few bullet journal related posts up on my blog already (if you check the ‘How To’ link in my navigation it’ll get you there) and I hope to get back to it at some point I’ve just lost motivation to actually use my bullet journal so I haven’t been writing anything new for the series, which sucks as it was always so much fun!
