Tag Time: The Book Blogger Test

For today’s post, I thought it would be fun to do a tag again as I haven’t really done one in quite a while and who doesn’t enjoy a good tag, right? I saw this over on Thoughts Of The Reader ages ago (I found this post in my tags the other day) and knew I had to do it at some point too. Today’s that day!

Let’s just jump straight into this tag otherwise we’ll risk me babbling on for too long!

What are your 3 bookish pet peeves?

Books That Don’t Match – here’s the thing: I’m usually someone who sorts their books by series on their shelves. I love being able to see all those series next to each other but sometimes, the books won’t match in height and it annoys me. This doesn’t even have to do with covers, for the most part because on my shelves, I only see the spines and I want their heights to match. I’ve started actually measuring my books to compare them to the sequel I’m about to buy to make sure they are the same height. I’m not even kidding.

Unnecessary Romantic Plots – don’t get me wrong, I love me a good romantic plot. But then there are books that just simply do not need them, the most recent one I read being Scythe. And it’s not even like it was a major plot point in the first book but it still annoyed me because it wasn’t needed. We could’ve done perfectly fine without the romantic sub plot. The book would’ve probably been even better (and I already love it a lot) without it.

People Judging Others – this goes in so many different directions. Judging others for what they read, how much they read, the format they read it, the way someone treats their own books, etc. For me, reading is supposed to be about something we all enjoy doing and nobody should be judged for how they do it. I’ve seen people trash talk audiobooks (which I’ll never understand, I adore audiobooks and will never stop listening to books that way) or judge others for tabbing/highlighting/marking up their own books.

It’s no secret that I love taking pen to paper in my books. You’ve probably seen my copy of Six Of Crows at some point and that book is covered in notes, highlighted passages and tabs. I’m always someone who supports you doing what you love and how you love to do it, as long as you’re not hurting someone else in the process.

Name a perfect reading spot.

This is always going to be my bed. I do most of my reading in bed and it’s my preferred spot for sure, especially since the walls in my flat are quite thin and if I’m trying to get any reading done in the living room I can hear whenever someone moves around in the hallway which is just going to distract me from reading. Though, sometimes when I’m cooking, I’ll read on the couch as it’s right next to the kitchen and I can see what’s happening on my stove (I live in a small flat).

Give 3 reading confessions.

My Favorite Books Aren’t In Perfect Condition – this goes hand in hand with what I just talked about when it comes to people judging others. My favorite books are almost all tabbed and marked in one way or another. I love being able to look at a book and telling that it’s loved by the amount of tabs and notes it has within it’s pages. I don’t actively try to damage the spin but that’ll happen sometimes, especially with really big paperbacks that aren’t floppy.

I Used To Be Afraid Of Reading In English – I don’t know how many of you guys know this, but English isn’t my first language – it’s actually German. And while I started speaking in English exclusively online over a decade ago it took me a few more years to actually start reading books in English (outside of class) – I used to be afraid I wouldn’t understand what I was reading even though I was watching tons and tons of shows in English by then. And now 95% of my reading gets done in English.

I’m A Slow Reader And I Hate It – here’s something I always make fun of: I talk so fast I’ll have people tell me to please slow down but I read slowly (unless it’s reading out loud in class, which is when I’ll read fast again) and it annoys me. But this is also where audiobooks come into play because with their help, I can finish a book much faster (I’m usually at around 2.25-2.5 times the regular speed, if not more. Especially if I have a physical copy to read along in) and therefore get more reading done in general. My reading really has benefitted so much from me finally discovering audiobooks for myself.

When was the last time you cried during a book.

I have the absolute worst memory, you guys. These aren’t the kinds of questions I can answer easily but the one book that stands out is obviously Kingdom Of Ash. I can’t even tell you how often I cried because it was a lot. But what did I expect ,considering it was the final book in a seven book series!

Number of books on your bedside table?

Just one, at the moment! I don’t really keep books in my bedroom unless I’m actively reading them or consider picking them up next if I’m reading multiple books at once. But then there’s also my phone which has all my audiobooks on it so there are actually quite a few more here than one. xD

Favourite reading snack?

I don’t really eat anything while reading, maybe some Haribo if I have something at home, but that’s about it. I can’t be trusted with food around books. It could potentially end in disaster. xD

What are 3 books you’d recommend to anyone?

Man, you really had to come for me like this, okay. Let me think.

The Infernal Devices, Cassandra Clare – TID isn’t exactly Cassie’s best writing (just yet) but it’s definitely up there and most definitely her best work overall at this point. I love the characters in this story, I will forever exclude this triangle from my hate of love triangles, James Carstairs is the most precious character and I will fight you all if you disagree. Clockwork Princess and that epilogue will always be something I can’t think about without crying my eyes out. Basically, I adore this trilogy and I need everyone to read it. Best thing? You can read this without having read any of Cassie’s ten million other books.

Anything Leigh Bardugo – Honestly, Leigh’s probably one of my all-time favorite authors and I think you should read every book she’s published so far. If you love badass women, Leigh’s your go-to. If you adore misfit type of groups, Leigh is definitely you go-to (Six Of Crows is so god damn awesome and the characters are all super freaking loveable). If you want to be sucked into a story, unable to put the book down, again, Leigh is your go-to!

Ember Quartett, Sabaa Tahir – one of the best things about this series is that Sabaa continues to expand her world and the mythology with each book and you can’t quite tell what else she’s got in store for you – apart from pain, you 1000% know that there’s more of that to come, it wouldn’t be a Sabaa book otherwise. I’ve been reading this series since An Ember In The Ashes came out and I can’t wait to cry my way through the finale, I’ll just be over here impatiently waiting for it – but also dreading it because that’ll be the end of this fantastic series.

Biggest reading secret?

Hmmm, I’m not sure that I have any reading secrets? I feel like I’m an open books when it comes to my reading so, *shrugs*. Also, look at that pun guys. I made a pun! xD

Okay, wow. This post honestly ended up so much longer than I ever expected it to. I really hope you guys enjoyed reading it though, as my hands may or may not be hurting right now. xD But it’s all worth it because this post was super fun! 🙂
