Hello and happy Friday you guys! It’s almost the weekend (depending on when you actually read this post) and I hope to get a lot of reading done as I haven’t been reading too much this week.
We’re already almost an entire week into April and I figured it would be a good idea to take a look back at my 2019 Reading Goals just to check in and see how I was doing overall and to make sure I was on track to complete my reading goals by the end of 2019.
Surprisingly, I’m doing much better this year than I did in 2018 and am actually on my way to easily complete my goals if things continue going to plan! Here’s a break down of my goals and how I’m doing so far!
Goal #1: Read 65 Books
For 2019 I decided to up my usual reading goal of 50 and instead set it to 65 from the start and I have to say, while I was worried about being able to keep up in January, I’ve since been doing really well and haven’t fallen behind either!
I’m pretty sure that I’ll be able to complete this goal by the end of the year as I’m currently at 22/65 and 6 books ahead of schedule!
Actually, I hope I’ll able to read more than 65 books but we’ll see what things look like once I go back to school. That might cut into my reading time quite drastically. Here’s a look at everything I’ve read so far in 2019:
Goal #2: Read 15 Contemporary Novels
To be honest, I had to double check and make sure I was actually making progress on this goal because I couldn’t remember if I’d even been reading contemporaries so far this year – spoiler: I absolutely did. My memory just sucks. xD
I’m currently at 7/15 and we’re not even halfway through the year so I feel confident saying I’ll definitely be able to complete this by the end of 2019 too. Especially since spring/summer is usually when I read the most contemporary novels!
Goal #3: Read 5 Adult Books
When I was setting my goals for 2019, I decided it was time to branch out a bit more and see what else is out there for me to love and enjoy. Adult novels were definitely on that list just because I kept seeing them pop up on various channels/accounts of people who usually mainly read Young Adult.
Currently, I’m at 4/5 books read which means I just need to read one more to complete my very first reading goal! I don’t know what that book with be just yet and since we still have nine more months left this year there is absolutely no pressure to decide just yet! xD
Goal #4: Read 10 Debut Novels
I just realized that I need to include this in the things I track about my 2019 reads because I didn’t have the numbers anywhere. xD Good thing we’re already in April and I just now realize that my tracking isn’t complete just yet – but we’ll get that done in a second, don’t worry!
However, I just checked the books I’ve completed so far and I should be at 6/10 for debut novels. Plus, all three of my current read are the authors’ debut novels so I’m about to almost complete this goal too!
Goal #5: Empty Unread Book Box
I finally get to say that I’m actually making progress at actually reading books I already own and it feels so good! I had a similar goal in 2018 but I never actually made any progress towards it.
So far, I’ve read 5/13 books and I’m more than happy with that! I’ve got a few more quick and short books in my box which should propel me forward even more which is always exciting. I might even do another reading weekend dedicated solely to that box of books as that’s how I got those 5 books read in the first place.
Goal #6: Read Books I Buy Immediately
This one was a goal I knew would be easy to stick with and complete as I had set myself a strict book buying budget and was only allowing myself to buy anticipated releases I knew I would want to read right away.
However, I’ve been buying more books than I anticipated but the more important part: I’m still reading them close to buying them! I currently only have one book that I bought that I haven’t finished yet – but I’m about 70 pages from doing so! And, any of the other books I’ve preordered so far are all books I am impatiently waiting for and I know I will get to right away so I feel really good about this goal!
Goal #7: Read & Review German Review Copies
Here’s a goal that will eventually also help me work towards a different goal (aka goal #5) as these review copies are in that box too. I started into 2019 with 7 books I had to read and review and I’m down to 5 at the moment. That isn’t as much progress as I wish I had made, but I’m certain I’ll be able to complete this goal by the end of the year! I really want a clean slate with review copies at some point in 2019 which is a great motivational factor!
There we have it! A quick(ish) look at my 2019 reading goals and a check in on how I’m doing so far. I find it super motivational to know that I like to check in at multiple points during the year to see how I’m doing overall so if you’re struggling with your goals – maybe give check ins a go too? And this doesn’t solely focus on reading – this goes for any of your goals! 🙂
Are you guys keeping up with your reading goals for 2019? Or did you go into the year without having set any? What have been some surprises when it comes to follow through on your goals? And are there any you need to work on a bit more? Let me know in the comments down below – I can’t wait to chat with you! 🙂
