15 Ways To Spring Clean Your Social Media Platforms

Hello and happy Monday, you guys! I hope you’ve had a nice weekend and are ready to dive into this new week fully motivated to get stuff done!

We’re pretty much into spring at this point (I mean, despite the fact that it has snowed here this past weekend…) and some of you guys might already be writing to-do lists for your spring cleaning. I figured, while you guys are at it, you might also want some check lists for what to clean up with your social media platforms? I know I have to remind myself to do these things from time to time and figured some of you might be in similar positions.

For today’s post, I’ve got three different lists for your Blog, Instagram & Goodreads spring clean that I hope you’ll enjoy and find helpful. 🙂

To-Do List For A Blog Clean Up

Organize Blogs You Follow

One of the first things I like to do whenever it comes to cleaning up my blog, is to actually check which blogs I follow and making sure I still enjoy their content and want to follow them or check that the people I follow are still active. I don’t see the point in follow inactive blogs.

Clean Out Any Posts You May No Longer Enjoy

We all started out somewhere, right? And if we’re being completely honest, some of my earlier posts aren’t up to own standards anymore and I don’t hesitate to delete them. I’ve done so before and will definitely be doing again in the future. Probably even near future, as I’ve been feeling the need to do it more and more recently.

Check To Make Sure You Enjoy Your Blog’s Pages

I don’t know how many pages you guys have on your blogs (I’m at just 3) but make sure you keep them updated and looking the way you wanted them to. After recently clicking through Marie’s blog pages I’ve been inspired to update mine. They’re just not that pretty to look at and I’m definitely missing quite a few pages I should have on my blog.

Tidy Up/Freshen Up Your Sidebar

Whenever it comes to my sidebar, I kind of go through different phases of wanting it to either be quite minimal or be quite full. xD So I like to go back into it every now and then and reorganize things and add/delete anything I no longer need or want.

Delete Duplicate Images

Here’s something I only really notice whenever I use the search option in my blog’s media and stumble upon dublicate images. There’s really no need to have the same thing take up more space. But especially in the very beginning I would just add images each time I used them in a post. Rookie mistake.

To-Do List For An Instagram Clean Up

Clean Out Instagram Followers/Follows

My own Instagram feed is mostly bookish people with a few vloggers thrown in there that I’ve been following for years and wouldn’t want to miss. But I still make sure to go into the people I follow and clean the out from time to time to optimize what I see. And as for followers, I feel like I often just get the same people interacting with my post anyways so I try to keep my followers to at the very least bookish accounts that might want to interact with my posts.

Check Your Drafts – Clean Out Anything You Don’t Need

This will obviously depend on whether or not you actively use the draft option on Instagram (I don’t usually) but it’s still important to keep it to just what you actually still want to post.

Sort Out Story Hightlights

I don’t know if you guys actively use stories and the option to highlight them, but I do. I love having an album of things to look back at weeks/months down the line. I only have two highlights on my account (one for 2018 and one for 2019) that I’ll make sure are updated every now and then.

Update Highlight Images You No Longer Enjoy

There’s something so pleasing about checking out an Instagram account and discovering that they have coordinated highlight images (especially when they’re just matching colors). It instantly makes me want to follow them. I love me a good coordinated account. When I was still using multiple highlights I’d make sure to update my images for them frequently too.

Archive Images You No Longer Enjoy

This particular point on the to-do list will depend on whether or not you like to archive pictures and if you like having an account with a theme going (I keep going back and forth on this, to be honest) but if it’s something you care about I’d definitely recommend you archive your images from time to time. It makes for a more uniform theme that is definitely very pleasing to the eye!

Update Your Profile To Reflect Most Recent Information

Do you guys update your profiles (no matter which platform) regularly or is it something you tend to forget to do? I know I have to actively remind myself to stay on top of this (especially on Goodreads!) and it’s probably already about time I get my profile updated. Good thing i’m writing this post!

Organize TBR Shelf/Shelves

We’ve talked about how my Goodreads TBR is pretty low and why I like keeping it that way – but even then, I still go back in and update it regulary. Sometimes you just need a few more weeks to realize that you’re just not going to read that book you continue to keep on your TBR. And that’s okay.

Update Shelves

And while you’re in the process of organizing your TBR shelf, you might aswell check on your other shelves and see if you need to update any of them. I usually do this with my monthly shelves for the next 12 months to make sure I’ve upcoming releases sorted into them properly. This helps me decide which books I want to preorder and when I want to preorder them (aka April which had too many releases I really want and the same with May).

Check Your Groups – Leave Any You No Longer Participate In/Are Inactive

When I first started on Goodreads I would join a ton of groups and tell myself I’d actively participate in all of them. Do I even need to say that I didn’t? As of right now, i’m only a member of two groups that don’t require me to actively participate all the time which is perfect. Make sure you stay up to date with what groups you’re in and which you have the time to particpate in!

Cross Post Any Reviews You Haven’t Shared Yet

Here’s something I really need to be much better about and that’s cross posting my reviews! I usually try and add any reviews I write for the blog to Goodreads too but I sometimes forget (my memory sucks) and suddenly I’ve got a number of books I have reviews for that aren’t up on Goodreads yet. And since you’re already in the process of cross posting, you might as well post your reviews on other sides as well! 😉

Phew, there we have it! A list of 15 tasks you can do to spring clean your social media platforms! I know I didn’t include them all but I figured you can apply most of them to other platforms too or change them up a bit to fit for whatever other platform you’re using! 🙂
