Hello and happy Friday you guys! I hope you’re having a nice start into the weekend – or at the very least a nice start to your day!
Can you guys believe we’re already almost through July?! Because this is wild to me (it gets even wilder when you think that we’re getting closer and closer to the end of this decade. I saw someone mention this on Twitter and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since). But that also means it’s time to once again look at how I’m doing with my reading goals for the year (btw, if you’re curious, here’s a link to my first update from early April)! I tend to never have a clear image on it unless I check in throughout.
I have to say, I’ve made some great progress on some goals (I’ve even completed some!) while I’ve just giving up on others – read on to see which is the case for what goal! 😉
Goal #1: Read 65 Books ✔
Luckily for me, I actually got ahead in my reading quite a bit this year so my current situation (aka watching all the BTS content I can get, yes I’m still doing that) isn’t doing too much harm and I’m still in a comfortable position with my reading challenge! I’m currently at 47 read books and hopefully I’ll be able to get to 50 by the end of the month – I just have to pick up a book again. It shouldn’t be this difficult. xD
Goal #2: Read 15 Contemporary Novels ❌
I am so, so close to knocking this challenge off early as I’ve already read 13 contemporary novels so far this year and I’ve got two review copies for the upcoming months that I can’t wait to get to that are both contemporary so once I’ve read them, I’ll be able to cross this off!
Goal #3: Read 5 Adult Books ✔
As you may have seen in previous Recently Read posts, I’ve started reading the Red Rising series this year which definitely contributed towards finishing this challenge eary (though just two books, I haven’t gotten further in yet) and I’m so excited about it! I’ve actually read a total of 7 adult books so far and by the time I’m caught up with Red Rising I’ll be at ten! TWICE of what I had planned.
Goal #4: Read 10 Debut Novels ✔
It’s a good thing I decided to do the second update to my reading goals because I finally remembered to actually track which of the books I’ve read so far were debut novels! xD I’m at a total of 13 out of the 47 books being a debut novel and I’m quite pleased with that number. Sure, some were backlist titles, but a debut novel is a debut novel! 😀
Goal #5: Empty Unread Book Box ❌
When I decided to put all of my books on the shelf I have right now I may have made the mistake of not seperating my unread books from the box so I have no idea which books I should be reading towards this challenge. xD I’ve obviously gotten new books since I wrote my goals in early January but those didn’t count towards this. I might just take this off my goals for 2019 and work on something more easily trackable for 2020!
Goal #6: Read Books I Buy Immediately ❌
Ah, I was doing so, so well on this particular challenge for most of the year as I usually just buy my anticipated releases and not really any other books but then I bought Morning Star and Iron Gold to read in July and we all know that hasn’t happened yet (again, BTS y’all). But I don’t think that’s too bad on my part. It’s two books I’m very, very certain I’ll read soon especially with the next book in the Red Rising series coming out at the end of July and I do want to be able to read it immediately!
Goal #7: Read & Review German Review Copies ❌
This is another goal I kind of messed up on as I didn’t clearly write down which books I should be reading for this. But I have somewhat of an idea and I should be able to complete this goal reasonable soon – though I might just go for the English audiobook to help me get there faster. xD
That’s it! I think I’m doing fairly well and as soon as I start reading properly and regularly again, I think I’ll be able to knock the rest of my reading goals off too which would be super fun, not going to lie!
How are you guys doing on your reading challenges? Are there any you find yourself struggling with more than others? Let me know, I’m super curious to hear!
By the way, I was thinking of maybe switching my posting up again to two posts per week (probably Wednesday and Sunday) and then whenever I have a review I can post, I’d do that on Fridays. What do you guys think? How many posts do you like to read from the blog you follow? Please share your thoughts in the comments!
