2021 KPOP Collection Goals

Usually, what you guys would be getting on my blog around this time of year would be my reading goals for the upcoming year – just like I did for 2019 and 2018. But since I’m trying to take out any pressure when it comes to my reading I decided to talk about goals in a different area for 2021!

As I talked about in my previous post, I’ve really gotten into KPOP over the past year and a half and in 2020 I started to collect albums by my favorite artists or releases and my plan for the upcoming year is to continue to grow this collection in different ways. So, shall we talk about how I plan to do that? Because I really need to sort my thoughts and this is the best way to do so!

#1 Complete My BTS Korean Discography

My number one priority is going to be (and has been) to complete my BTS Korean Discography. They currently have 15 physical albums with at least one version per release. I have a copy of every album but Map Of The Soul: Persona, most albums I have multiple versions of and some I’ve already completed the sets for (it’s a whole thing with kpop and I love it). I’m currently missing 16 copies in total to be caught up and I definitely see that happening in 2021 – especially if they don’t give us an album with multiple versions again.

BTS is only one of two acts where my goal is to have a completed (technically) discography, meaning every version of every release. We’ll get more into that in a bit.

#2 Complete My Baekhyun Solo/SuperM Korean Discography

And here we have the other act that I want to have a completed discography for – technically. Baekhyun is one of my ult biases and I just adore his voice. Unlucky for me, he also has a fairly extensive discography with his main group EXO (who I love too, don’t get me wrong) that I don’t see myself ever wanting to collect, especially since I’m so late to the game. Solo, he has released two albums where I own 3 of the 6 different copies that there are. He’s also part of a kpop super group (aka SuperM) and that group has two albums to date. Here my goal is just to own the version with him on the cover for each album, which I already do for the most recent release. GO ME, already halfway there with this goal!

#3 Work On My Ateez Korean Discography

There hasn’t been a group in kpop that made me fall for them as fast and as hard as Ateez did in 2019 and I can’t believe I don’t have more of their discography on hand. I bought a used copy of their most recent release and my plan with them is to just buy a version for each of their albums out to date (6 so far, with the first two only having one version and the next three having two versions each). I don’t see the need to own multiple copies of their discography because I do not plan on collecting photocards fo them.

#4 Own Certain Seventeen Album Versions

Up next, we’re talking Seventeen. I adore these boys like crazy but they also have a quite extensive backlog of albums and I just don’t see myself owning all of them or even a version per release. My goal here is to pick a version of An Ode (the comeback I was a fan for) and then buy a second press version of Heng:garae and Semicolon so I can have a photobook with all the members for the releases I was here for. I may decide to buy older releases at some point, but for now, that’s the priority for sure.

#5 Complete EXO Solo Releases

I can’t believe I just almost excluded one of most wanted albums from this goals post! Since I had grown my kpop collection quite fast this year, I put myself on a buying ban for December which unfortunately meant I couldn’t get KAI’s first ever solo album. The album I had been waiting over a year for. But I’ll get that as soon as possible, I want to support him! And then the only other EXO solo/sub unit release I also want is EXO-SC’s first mini album in the Sehun version (he’s my second EXO bias alongside Baekhyun) and maybe the second album with his version too, I don’t know yet. I don’t technically need a second a copy of that album.

#6 Keep Up With Upcoming Releases

For all of the artists mentioned above, my plan for 2021 is to also keep up with their album releases by buying a copy per release. I never plan on buying entire sets of albums (not even BTS) as they are released. Kpop releases get too much at times (think peak book publishing months) and there’s no one I can keep up with that. xD I’m happy just owning a version for the beginning and then expanding if it’s BTS. I also will buy any album The Boyz give me. I adore them a lot too and there last two releases were A+ and I can’t wait for more.

#7 Make Progress On Photocard Collection

One of the fun things about these kpop albums is that they usually come with at least one photocard that you can keep and collect, if you want to. And I definitely want to. I have a binder set up and everything. But since my main priority is usually owning physical copies of albums, I don’t put as much focus on my photocard collection, but once I’ve completed my BTS discography, that’s going to be my next big goal. I collect photocards for most of the artists mentioned above, though not all to the same level. I’ll probably talk about phtocard collection plans at some point in the future. πŸ™‚

#8 Keep Having Fun!

I feel like this almost always my last goal for anything: to have fun. Kpop and collecting is a hobby and should be something that brings me joy and not something that stresses me out for whatever reason. So even though I have a number of goals for the upcoming year, I most importantly want to make sure that I have a great time while doing what I plan to.

These bands all bring me so much joy and great music on the regular and there is usually always a lot of content to consume and to fall deeper down rabbit holes and to have fun with it. And make new friends. And discover new bands.

Are any of you guys who read this blog also into kpop? If so, what are some of your goals for the upcoming year if you set some? And for my bookish readers, what are some of your reading goals for the upcoming year? And how did you do with you 2020 reading goals? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Honestly keeping up with album releases can get exhausting for me, there are so many comebacks and repackages to keep an eye for! πŸ˜‚ For me, I just want to discover more groups and listen to more full albums next year. I really suck at listening to albums and exploring other artists, even though I know I will enjoy them (case in point: Taeyeon and Shinee) so I’m making this my priority next year!

    1. I basically only listen to full albums for the groups I mentioned in this post. xD Everyone else is usually just the title track and maybe a bside here and there. BUT! There have been some really nice gems of albums this year that I didn’t expect to fall in love with, which is always amazing! I hope you’re able to find loads of new music in 2021!
