12 Bookish Confessions // Don’t Judge Me Too Hard

Morning you guys! How are you all doing today? How has your weekend been? Did you guys have a fun time? Did you do any reading? Please say you did, I feel like I need all the motivation I can get at the moment. Netflix has been stealing all my time (but I am almost all caught up with the Marvel shows I want to watch!) and I feel like I can’t get away from it long enough to actually start reading a book. #oops. But! I did listen to another chapter of Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy today, which is awesome!

And speaking of audiobooks, they’ll actually be part of one of my bookish confessions I want to talk to you guys about! We all love reading about people’s various confessions and I figured talking about some bookish ones would be the perfect start into the new week, so let’s get started before I continue to ramble.

I Dog-Ear My Pages

Horrible, I know. But I’ve been doing that for so many years now and even though I try my best to avoid it whenever possible, sometimes that’s the only way to mark a page or scene. And honestly, I don’t mind. I don’t need the pages of my books to be in perfect condition.

I Write In My Books

This probably isn’t a surprise to some of you guys, if you’ve been reading my blog for a couple of months now as I did an entire post all about writing into your books! I am a huge fan of this – even if it took me a little to actually get used to doing it and not feeling a tiny bit of guilt over it. Nowadays, the books that show clear signs of having been read are my absolute favorites.

I Crack My Spines

Not on purpose – usually, but it does happen more often than not. Especially since I usually buy paperbacks and I find it’s much more difficult to keep those spines 100% intact! But again, it’s a sign of a well-read and loved book, so I’m game!

I Have Food Stains In Some Of My Books

Yep. This has happened before. Mostly before I grew so attached to my phone and I used it as entertainment when I was eating by myself. I also have to say, I no longer read while I’m eating. I can’t be trusted with food near books. Especially anything that includes a red sauce. I can’t even be trusted with that around myself… my white tank tops always end up with tiny red splatters of soup or sauce.

I Will Buy A Book Because Of The Cover

Yep, I am 100% that person. And I don’t mind? I mean, what am I supposed to do when books have absolutely stunning covers??? I am weak, okay? I love looking at beautiful things. Actually, I will wait a couple of weeks longer just so I can buy a different edition of the book. This just happened with Daughter Of The Burning City by Amanda Foody. I waited for the UK paperback release because I prefer that cover.

There Are Books On My Digital TBR I’m Not Sure I’ll Ever Read

We all have TBRs that are just ridiculously long and we might have trouble finishing them unless we ignore any and all other responsibilities to read for the rest of our lives. The thing with my digital TBR is that some of the books have been on there for so many years now that I am 95% sure I’ll never actually read them. Especially considering that I continue to add more books to it. It’s a vicious cycle, guys.

I Often Fall For The Hype

Let’s just make sure we don’t include books by authors I know I love in this list – this is about books that aren’t by people I know I will want to read as soon as possible. This is about all those books that everyone and their grandma seems to be talking about and loving and that I absolutely have to check out too because obviously, I want to know what everyone (and their grandma) is talking about!

I’m Already Thinking About Which Book To Buy Next – Despite The Many Unread Books On My Shelves

I feel like ever since I started blogging, this has definitely gotten to be more of a problem. I want all the new releases on my shelves – by yesterday. And that’s just not realistic. I mean, I should 100% read all those unread books first and then think about getting more books. But it’s new books. And I love the smell of new books. I can’t help it.

I Will Push Back Reading A Book Because I’m Worried I Won’t Enjoy It

This is honestly the worst thing for me. I will have looked forward to a book for weeks or even months and then once I hold it in my hands? Yeah, no. Let’s just stare at it for a couple more days (or weeks) and then we can read it. Maybe. We’ll read it maybe. Because what if it’s not as great as everyone says??? What am I supposed to do then, huh???

I Prefer Reading Physical Books Over EBooks But Love Audiobooks

How does this even work? I have absolutely no problem listening to an audiobook, but when it comes to reading an ebook I’m over here like ‘I would rather be reading a physical book!’. Audiobooks aren’t physical copies of a book either. But I don’t mind those. I have actually started to really love them this year!

I Used To Never DNF A Book

Up until very recently, I would never DNF a book. I would always make myself read a book front to back. Even if I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked. I had to finish reading the book. I’m so glad I decided to change that because I would honestly much rather be reading books I love!

I Won’t Read A Book For Weeks At A Time And Sometimes Feel Guilty About It

This one is probably something I have to constantly tell myself not to worry about. I don’t have to be reading a book every other day. I can take a break from reading for weeks and do something else instead and it doesn’t change my love for reading. Marie actually recently shared a very fantastic post all about reading and how she’s been feeling about it lately – which summed up my feelings really well. You should check it out!
