Blogmas Day 1: A Love Letter To Your Favorite 2017 Read

Hey you guys and welcome to Blogmas Day 1 which is all about sharing all of the love for your favorite 2017 read! The only criteria to qualify for this post is that you must have read the book you’re talking about in 2017. It doesn’t matter if it was released this year, in the past couple of years or is an upcoming release. None of that matters! I just want us all to share some love for the book we loved the most this year!

When I was thinking about which books to feature for the upcoming days I kept struggling to find a topic for the first day. What could I do that is a single thing? I’ve seen people built Christmas trees out of books but I didn’t want to do that. Instead, I figured I would talk about the book that I’ve already read twice this year and that I didn’t actually expect to make it onto my favorites because I hadn’t liked the author’s most recent release as much as everyone else seemed to.

Have you guys figured out what the book might be yet? I’m sure you did! It’s…

drumroll please
By the way, I didn’t just randomly decide on this GIF. I feel like it’s a little-known fact about me but I LOVE Formula1 and Daniel Ricciardo might be one of the happiest guys amongst all of the drivers. So yeah, had to use a GIF of him!

simon vs the homo sapiens agenda

Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda tells the story of – you guessed it!, Simon who is a closeted teenager in High School and has been emailing with another boy called Blue, whose real identity he doesn’t know as they both use different names in their emails to each other. The book kicks off with Martin, a classmate, blackmailing Simon into helping him get closer to one of Simon’s friends or have his relationship with Blue outed to the public and by doing that, outing Simon too. We join Simon as he tries to deal with this situation and everything that comes with it while also trying to figure out who this mysterious Blue is.Β

I read Simon VS for the first time this past summer when I was in a serious mood to read some contemporary novels and I absolutely loved it. I finished listening to the audiobook in one sitting during a sleepless night. I just needed to know what was going to happen and who exactly Blue was.

Usually, I don’t read that many fluffy books but this one just stole my heart and hasn’t given it back since. I actually just finished a reread of it in early November. Yes, you read that correctly. I actually read the same book twice in one year and I loved it just as much the second time around. And THEN. And then you guys.

We got the Love, Simon trailer. And it was fantastic. I’ve seen it a million and one times. I can’t wait for the movie to be released and for all of us to collectively lose our shit. The hours/minutes leading up to the trailer drop were full of so much anticipating on my Twitter timeline and then once it dropped we were all just sharing it and our love and appreciation for it and it was a fantastic night to have been on Twitter! I’m so glad I read the book early this year and was able to join in and feel all of it with everyone else!

Now I just need to get myself a physical copy of the book so I can tab it like no one’s business and write a million notes into it. Because while I’ve read it twice (via audiobook, that is) I still haven’t gotten around to actually buying a physical copy. But I will soon! I’m just waiting to see if it’ll part of my Christmas presents and if not, I’ll get a copy for myself. Gotta show that support for Becky!

Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda was a fun, lighthearted coming of age story that I think everyone out there should read. It has some fantastic quotes and moments of teenagers being teenagers and I absolutely loved it. If I could, I would throw a copy at all of you guys to make sure you read it too! I mean, all of our yelling worked on Jackie and she finally read (and loved) it!

I figured I would wrap this post up with some GIFs that I think represent my feelings about this book much better than my words ever could and hopefully they’ll help convince you to give the book a chance too! You wouldn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to fangirl with the rest of us about how fantastic the movie is going to be, right???

oh my god i love it all

being overwhelmed

I don’t even have the proper words to describe which GIF relates to what in the book. They are more of an overall representation and the last one is obviously me after finishing the book. And I am dead serious about that last GIF too, you guys. You better pick it up soon and read it!

  1. I love the prompt that you came up with for the first day, because it’s so unique and great, because we all want to talk about our favorite read(s)! πŸ’• I have to say that I loooved Simon VS. as well and have read it two times (but not in the same year) *whispers* I also have yet to watch the trailer, I have no idea why I didn’t watch it already.

For me I’d say that the book that I connected with the most this year was Queens of Geek (I feel like I constantly mention it now :D) and I had two unexpected favorite moments: with The Black Prism and Passenger πŸ™‚

    1. What do you mean you haven’t seen the trailer yet???? CARO. Please get on that as soon as possible!

Hahaha, that’s exactly how I am with the books I love or am excited for – I’ll take EVERY opportunity to talk about them, so I definitely get it!

Is that Passenger by Alexandra Bracken? I’ve had it on my radar since it was released last year (I think?) so I can’t wait to see what I think once I actually read it! I love unexpected favorites! Simon VS was definitely one for me as was Kiersten White’s The Conqueror’s Saga!

      1. 😱 😱 😱 I have now watched the trailer AND IT’S SO GOOD AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Yes that’s the book! I picked it up from my library by chance and it totally surprised me with how good it was 😍 I was going to write a Review, but now I think I’ll turn it into a kind of love letter for the prompt πŸ™‚ That’s And I Darken, right? Because I have not been sure if I should pick up the book 😱

        1. Yes, that’s exactly the book! I wasn’t even going to read it? But then I got accepted for an eARC of the sequel so obviously I read the first book and I LOVED it??? I can’t wait for the next book! Actually, I enjoyed And I Darken so much that I went ahead and watched YouTube videos on the person the book is based on. Like, that NEVER happens.

  5. I read this book in like 4 hours on one very hot summer evening and it brought me to freaking tears, it’s GREAT. I’m not sure how I feel about the actor playing Simon in the movie yet but I’m going to keep an open mind.

  6. Okay I just commented on two of your other posts and gushed about Simon vs BUT OH HEY HERE I AM AGAIN. I just can’t stop TALKING about this book and the MOVIE TRAILER like oh my freaking god I can’t remember the last time I’ve fallen in love with a book and its characters so quickly!

“I can’t wait for the movie to be released and for all of us to collectively lose our shit” HELL YEAH THIS IS GONNA BE FANTASTIC I WISH WE COULD HAVE A BLOGGER WATCH PARTY AND ALL GO TO THE CINEMA TOGETHER JUST IMAGINE HOW FUN THAT WOULD BE.

And yes your yelling did work! I mean I had definitely planned to read it that week so I’d be ready for the trailer to be released but you guys definitely gave me that last smol push in the right direction!

    1. Oh, by the way! Were you spoiled for who Blue was too? I had seen the different casting announcements and the fans reactions so when a certain person showed up in the books and was described (like, physically) I immediately knew who he was going to be in the end which kind of sucked but also made the middle part so much more painful??? Because you just want to yell at Simon to FIGURE IT OUT.

Oh my god. We would have the best time, okay. Why can’t we just beam ourselves to the same place and do this together??? Everything would be much easier if that were possible!

I didn’t know you were going to read the book anyways that week, but i’m glad we were able to give you that tiny push!
