Hey you guys and welcome to Blogmas Day 1 which is all about sharing all of the love for your favorite 2017 read! The only criteria to qualify for this post is that you must have read the book you’re talking about in 2017. It doesn’t matter if it was released this year, in the past couple of years or is an upcoming release. None of that matters! I just want us all to share some love for the book we loved the most this year!
When I was thinking about which books to feature for the upcoming days I kept struggling to find a topic for the first day. What could I do that is a single thing? I’ve seen people built Christmas trees out of books but I didn’t want to do that. Instead, I figured I would talk about the book that I’ve already read twice this year and that I didn’t actually expect to make it onto my favorites because I hadn’t liked the author’s most recent release as much as everyone else seemed to.
Have you guys figured out what the book might be yet? I’m sure you did! It’s…
Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda tells the story of – you guessed it!, Simon who is a closeted teenager in High School and has been emailing with another boy called Blue, whose real identity he doesn’t know as they both use different names in their emails to each other. The book kicks off with Martin, a classmate, blackmailing Simon into helping him get closer to one of Simon’s friends or have his relationship with Blue outed to the public and by doing that, outing Simon too. We join Simon as he tries to deal with this situation and everything that comes with it while also trying to figure out who this mysterious Blue is.
I read Simon VS for the first time this past summer when I was in a serious mood to read some contemporary novels and I absolutely loved it. I finished listening to the audiobook in one sitting during a sleepless night. I just needed to know what was going to happen and who exactly Blue was.
Usually, I don’t read that many fluffy books but this one just stole my heart and hasn’t given it back since. I actually just finished a reread of it in early November. Yes, you read that correctly. I actually read the same book twice in one year and I loved it just as much the second time around. And THEN. And then you guys.
We got the Love, Simon trailer. And it was fantastic. I’ve seen it a million and one times. I can’t wait for the movie to be released and for all of us to collectively lose our shit. The hours/minutes leading up to the trailer drop were full of so much anticipating on my Twitter timeline and then once it dropped we were all just sharing it and our love and appreciation for it and it was a fantastic night to have been on Twitter! I’m so glad I read the book early this year and was able to join in and feel all of it with everyone else!
Now I just need to get myself a physical copy of the book so I can tab it like no one’s business and write a million notes into it. Because while I’ve read it twice (via audiobook, that is) I still haven’t gotten around to actually buying a physical copy. But I will soon! I’m just waiting to see if it’ll part of my Christmas presents and if not, I’ll get a copy for myself. Gotta show that support for Becky!
Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda was a fun, lighthearted coming of age story that I think everyone out there should read. It has some fantastic quotes and moments of teenagers being teenagers and I absolutely loved it. If I could, I would throw a copy at all of you guys to make sure you read it too! I mean, all of our yelling worked on Jackie and she finally read (and loved) it!
I figured I would wrap this post up with some GIFs that I think represent my feelings about this book much better than my words ever could and hopefully they’ll help convince you to give the book a chance too! You wouldn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to fangirl with the rest of us about how fantastic the movie is going to be, right???
I don’t even have the proper words to describe which GIF relates to what in the book. They are more of an overall representation and the last one is obviously me after finishing the book. And I am dead serious about that last GIF too, you guys. You better pick it up soon and read it!
How about you guys? What has been your most favorite book that you have read so far this year? Is it a book that you absolutely didn’t see coming? Or was it something you 100% knew would be your favorite of 2017? Let me know down in the comments below or share a post of your own and link to it in the comment section! I can’t wait to see what you guys’ #1 favorite books have been this year!
