Giving TBRs A Go With #YARC2019 – Sign Up, TBR And Future Updates

For the past two months, whenever I saw someone I follow share their sign up posts for #YARC2019 my immediate reaction has been ‘I should join too! This sounds like a lot of fun!‘ – but as this post shows, I hadn’t signed up yet. But we’re going to change that today.

In case you’re not familiar with #YARC2019 it’s the Year Of The Asian Reading Challenge hosted by four people you’ve most definitely heard about:

This challenge is all about reading as many books by Asian authors as you possibly can – there are even cute badges involved to show what you aim for. There are challenges, different monthly prompts, bi-monthly Twitter chats and a big giveaway at the end of 2019 – all things that’ll contribute to a fun experience! Check out the links above for more details on the challenge and how you can sign up (it’s never too late to do so! Sign-ups are open all year) and join in on the fun.

I’ve decided to aim for the Indian Cobra, which is 11-20 books. My overall goal for 2019 is to read 65 books and I figured if at least fifth (aka 13 books) of them is by Asian authors, that would be awesome. And since I already mentioned the cute badges, here’s the one I’ll be displaying and aiming to claim:

And now it’s time to talk TBRs which is probably going to be the most difficult part for me because usually, whenever I add a book to even a mental TBR I end up not wanting to read it. Which is just downright ridiculous but what can I do.

I’ve actually already read two books by Asian authors in January, which I’ll be counting towards my total too and they’re

You can find my thoughts on both books by clicking here and here.

But now, let’s actually talk about some of the books I plan on reading in 2019 to complete this challenge and hopefully find a ton of new authors I can support and yell at you guys about! ๐Ÿ˜€

Up first we have Blood Of A Thousand Stars which has been sitting on my shelves for quite a few months now and is also part of my Box Of Unread Books that I plan to empty by the end of the year (aka I’m working towards two goals here which is always a win!), Wildcard which I have as an audiobook and have been meaning to read ever since it came out. It’s about damn time, especially since Marie Lu is bringing out another book this year and I need to reread a trilogy before that happens. xD And would it even be a 2019 TBR if it didn’t include a Sandhya Menon book? I adored both her previous books and I absolutely cannot wait to read and love There’s Something About Sweetie.

Since we’ve just spoken about an upcoming release, here are three more that have recently found their way onto my Goodreads shelves thanks to the book community cheering them on all the time! We’ve got Descendant Of The Crane, The Candle And The Flame and We Hunt The Flame! They all sounded really interesting and I can’t wait to dive into them come spring! Plus, can we please talk about the covers for all of them? 2019 is honestly bringing their A-game as far as covers are concerned!

As I mentioned in my review for The Gilded Wolves, I definitely want to check out more of Roshani Chokshi’s work which is why Aru Shah And The End Of Time is on this list and even though it won’t be a different author, I want to keep this as part of my official TBR. Then we have Fake It Till You Break It which sounds so right up my alley it’s ridiculous and lastly there’s Summer Bird Blue which has been on my radar ever since I finished Starfish.

That’s my TBR so far, but I’m super excited to read what everyone else is reading during the year which I’m certain will add more books to my mental TBR too. As I said, I’d like to read at least 13 books total so there’s definitely still room for more books. ๐Ÿ™‚

Updates:

This is where I’ll be adding the books I’ve read, their ratings and any and all links for reviews, etc so make sure you come back here to keep up to date! ๐Ÿ™‚
